What is qirat in hadithโ
A qirat is a merely a source or manifestation of a measurement; and in the above quoted authentic hadith, the Messenger of Allah (saws) equated the measurement of the rewards that Allah Subhanah would bestow upon one who follows a funeral procession and offers prayers for it as one qirat; and the reward of one who follows the funeral, offers prayers for it, and attends the actual burial as two qirats. When the companions enquired to the exact measure of the qirat, the Messenger of Allah (saws) equated the qirat to be the measure of gold as huge as a mountain.
In other words, if one follows a funeral procession and offers the funeral prayer over the deceased.Allah will reward this believer as much as He would reward one who would spend a huge mountain of gold in Allahs Cause.and if the believer stayed until his deceased brother was actually buried, Allah Subhanah would double the reward.
To attend the burial of ones believing brethren until they are buried in their graves is an extremely meritorious act in the Sight of Allah Subhanah.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

An-Nawawi said in al-Adhkaar (p. 53): Imam al-Haafiz Abu โAbdillah al-Humaydi said: This is how it appears in the book of Muslim in all reports: โor one thousand bad deeds will be erased for him.โ Al-Barqaani said: It was narrated by Shuโbah, Abu โAwaanah and Yahya al-Qattaan, from Moosaa, from whom Muslim narrated it. They said: โand one thousand bad deeds will be erased for him.โ
โAbdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: My father said: Ibn Numayr also said: โor one thousand bad deeds will be erased for him.โ Yaโlaa also said: โor one thousand bad deeds will be erased for him.โ See: Musnad Ahmad, ar-Risaalah edn. (3/133).
At-Tirmidhi narrated it as โand one thousand bad deeds will be erased for himโ and said: [It is] hasan saheeh.
Al-Qaari said in Mirqaat al-Mafaateeh (4/1594): Because one good deed brings a tenfold reward, and this is the minimal multiplication promised in the Qurโan, in the verses (interpretation of the meaning):
โWhoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit]โ
[al-Anโaam 6:160]
โAllah gives increase many times over to whom He pleasesโ
[al-Baqarah 2:261].

๐[Muslim, 1162]
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to be very keen to make sure he fasted on the day of โAshooraโ because of its great status. It was narrated that Ibn โAbbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I never saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) so keen to make sure he fasted any day and preferring it over another except this day, the day of โAshooraโ, and this month โ meaning Ramadaan. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1867.
With regard to the reason why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of โAshooraโ and urged the people to do likewise is mentioned in the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (1865) from Ibn โAbbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of โAshooraโ. He said, โWhat is this?โ They said, โThis is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day.โ He said, โWe are closer to Moosa than you.โ So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.
The words โthis is a good dayโ โ according to a version narrated by Muslim, โThis is a great day when Allaah saved Moosa and his people and drowned Pharaoh and his people.โ
