Had the best learning experience in plastic surgery under the guidance of Doyens of plastic surgery. This included microsurgery course, Hand operative course and an obervership for numerous trauma and diabetic foot surgeries! 11 Routine OTs and 5 emergency OTs. The emergency OT work never stops, day or night. From amputation (for replantation ) to diabetic foot to crush injuries!
Meeting Dr S Rajasabapathy in person, seeing his dedication and zeal for achieving the best even after being at the supreme height of the field was the best part of the experience. Other greats include dr Hari Venkatramani, Dr Praveen Bharadwaj, Dr Ravindra Bharati, Dr Madhu Periasamy, Dr Raja SK, Dr Sanjai Ravikumar, not to mention all the fellows and pgs. From the exchange of knowledge on OT table to daily presentations and trauma meetings at 7:30 am, I was transported into a world of academics like I had never experienced before.

Completed Hair transplantation fellowship by with under the guidance Dr Ashutosh Shah from Surat, one of the stalwarts of Plastic surgery in the country. The course included everything from patient counseling, operative details, hands on practise from cadever scalp skin to actual patients, to post op management. Dr Ashutosh Shah practises almost the entire range of surgeries that come under the gamut of plastic surgery, from trauma, replantation, microvascular reconstruction to cosmetic surgery. The sheer energy of this man is unmatched. Despite the long operative day which lasts till late evening he's as patient and smiling as he's in the morning while he answers the his patient's doubts. This course also included a talk on GST for Cosmetic surgery by CA Neeraj. It cleared a lot of concepts and so lead to so many many questions which he very patiently answered. All in all it was a wonderful learning experience and should be on the top of options for any plastic surgeon or dermat Dr who wants to learn about hair transplantation.

Cosmetic surgery at its best! This has been the best learning experience I’ve had for cosmetic surgery. Right from patient counselling, surgical finesse, post op to team building. is the example to show what you can achieve if you set your mind to it. A roaring Cosmetic surgery practise which he has achieved at such a young age is the absolute undeniable proof! The best part is that he’s willing to teach.

Skin cancers are amongst the most common type of cancers that affect us. They can range from a burrowing cancer (BCC) to a rapidly and widely spreading cancer (Melanoma). Being aware about them is the first step towards prevention.

Many construction workers get hooked onto various addictions, suffer from various injuries at workplace. Due to lack of information about the basics of things like workplace safety, proper 1st aid, clean dressing and wound care practise, self care, hygiene and unsafe sexual conduct, they end up suffering from the worst and preventable consequences which range from debilitating symptoms wounds, life long disabilities, scar contractures, amputations to HIV AIDS.

I was glad to be a part of a ‘on site’ lecture series, organised by Costa Costa Construction company to construction workers. The talk on work safety precautions and practises conducted by Schindler company representatives. The talk on HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and safe sexual practise by Dr Diksha Phadke. I gave a talk on 1st aid and wound care after an injury and ill-effects of to***co on the human body.

Facial injuries are the bane of road traffic accidents that can haunt you for the rest of your life. Every time you see your face in the mirror, every selfie your take will remind you of that fateful day. While some people can take these scars in their stride, for some it becomes the reason for shunning themselves away from social gatherings, modifies their personality and may even push them into depression.

A thorough assessment by a qualified and trained professional and a well planned treatment with a good post treatment care is what is needed to achieve the best possible results. A good support system of family and/or friends is another essential yet very often ignored component in healing of any kind of injury.

Here are the results of some patients I treated since I've started my private practice in North Goa.

Sanitizer related burn injury is very common in this covid era. The main component of any sanitizer ie Isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable and can easily ignites. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air, traveling to a source of ignition and flash back. It is not really the liquid burning – it is the vapors that catch fire.”

This Ganesh Chathurthi with the fear of corona pandemic, may result in many people using sanitizers and getting very close to open flames or other flammable objects.

The photos are of a patient who presented to me with sanitizer induced 2nd degree superficial to deep burns, at Dr. Kolwalkar's Galaxy Hospital.., Mapusa. Today he's recovered well from this injury and is back to his regular life.
