On the occasion of Dussehra, students at IIM Visakhapatnam performed Dandiya 🥳 to signify the victory of good over evil 😇. The dance is a beautiful way of re-creating the battle that took place between the Devi and the demon. The colourful sticks used during Dandiya represent the sword of Goddess Durga, that's why this dance form is also known as 'The Sword Dance'🤩.

Dussehra, also called Vijayadashami, marks the triumph 🥳 of Rama over the 10-headed demon king Ravana, who abducted Rama’s wife, Sita. The festival’s name is derived from the Sanskrit words dasha (“ten”) and hara (“defeat”). Symbolizing the victory of good over evil, Dussehra is celebrated on the 🔟th day of the month of Ashvina (September–October), the 7️⃣th month of the Hindu calendar, with the appearance of the full moon 🌝, an event called the “bright fortnight” (shukla paksha). Dussehra coincides with the culmination of the nine-day Navratri festival and with the tenth day of the Durga Puja festival. The festival is celebrated with great pomp and joy all over the country celebrating the victory of good over evil 🥳.
