Now that I have given you the strong idea of listening, let me give an idea of comprehending or understanding them.
Suppose you hear something: "where were their lands?" I am sure that you will be confused with the pronunciation of "where' 'were' and 'their' (as in they are ). Right? Write them down. try to find the possible connection between the previous sentence and the latter sentence.
Or else, you can pause the video; go back again and try to understand. If not happens at the first shot, try twice or thrice.
Watching anything with a subtitle will help you too.
As you can see, it will take some time: but this is a journey. You have to live it.
There are many ways to learn a language. I am sharing one way with you.
(Part 3)
“May Lord Krishna’s flute invite the melody of love into your life.”
You might be thinking what nonsense I am telling you to do!! If you don't understand anything then what is the profit of listening?
Okay, now when I taught myself and I have been dealing with people from different levels and age groups, I have noticed one important thing: ACCENT or pronunciation.
Here goes the tricks. Start with an Indian accent (watch Indian English, i.e, News Debate, Interviews, etc.) Once you grab this, start listening to other English UK, US, Mexican, Caribbean, Australian, and so on and so forth.
First, start to watch them with sub-title and then without it.
Pay close attention, repeat listening the same sentence. You will understand. (part 2)
Which is your favourite one?
Learning English is not so difficult. Remember how did you learn your mother tongues when you were not even at a learnable age? As listened to and observed your parents and others talking, singing, making fun around, you collected a lot of things; a lot of words!!
Wasn't that beautiful?
At times you tried to imitate those words, through your almost unutterable sounds of pronunciation.
All that I want to say here is, Listen to English. Everyday. Be it just 15 minutes or 5 hrs.
You have to have patience. Make it a goal. Live the journey. You will understand, your vocabulary will increase slowly, sentence structure will be proper and with time you'll be an experienced speaker that people would love listen to. Just a little bit of patience is all required and within few months you will feel the difference. (part 1)
