For older men and women, it is essential to build and maintain muscle mass.
Muscle strengthening activities that work the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, chest, abdomen, shoulders and arms) at least 2- 3 days a week, like lifting weights, using resistance bands and doing push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups and some types of yoga are beneficial.
Even everyday activities such as carrying groceries, playing with your kids and gardening can strengthen muscles.

We 80’s kids cherished foods like homemade delicacies -rava ladoo, till ladoo, Indian savoury chakli,nipattu, kodubalae, and freshly made banana chips. Additionally, we fondly recall the plate of dhal rice with ghee that we would eagerly devour after returning from school.

In my own personal experiences, I was deeply affected by two incidents that occurred during my youth, where I witnessed the mistreatment of elderly individuals who were defenseless and vulnerable.
Incident One:
One incident that profoundly impacted me involved the mistreatment of my aunt, who fell victim to physical abuse at the hands of her own son. This abuse was motivated by greed, as her son demanded money and property papers from her. I vividly remember sitting beside her in the hospital when her son called, hurling hurtful words, accusing her of feigning illness. Witnessing this emotionally devastated me, as I realized the helplessness she felt.
Incident Two:
In another distressing incident, I witnessed my friend's grandmother being struck by her own brother in an attempt to gain control over her savings. These instances left me with a heavy heart, knowing that these elderly individuals had no choice but to endure such mistreatment, as they were entirely dependent on others for their well-being.
Our Responsibility:
As responsible human beings, it is crucial that we impart valuable lessons to the next generation and take action against elder abuse. We must work together to create a society where such abuse has no place.
It is high time we put an end to elder abuse and foster a society that values and respects our senior citizens. By raising awareness about this issue and actively working to prevent such mistreatment, we can ensure that the elderly are protected, cherished, and provided with the care and compassion they deserve. Let us join hands to stop elder abuse and bring about positive change in our communities.
