The ultimate sustainable solution! 👌🏻

This is not the first time, we - the people are sympathizing for a kid like Sujith.
This is not the first time, we - the people are yelling at the government for its inefficiency and impotency.

India produces 1.5+ Million engineers every year, but still we haven't effectively found a solution to put an end to this misery. Yes, like launching a rover to the moon, facilitating the research and development of an rescue equipment is the responsibility of the government. But, the problem is that the government machinery is rusty as usual.

We - the people, the educated youths, the 'engineers' are not supposed to post and simply move on. We should act - immediately! Let's stop praying/pitying and start doing!

Engineers, come let's !

Disaster Response Volunteers (DRV) formerly known as Initiative - an upcoming disaster management team is willing to work with the engineering students, graduates, research scholars that are interested in developing a device to resolve the problem.

Ping us anytime. 🤞🏻😊

: Phase - 1 Relief Activity.

25-08-19 (Sunday) - Maharashtra

Incharge - BD Patil
Total volunteers on field - 10

.
Out of the three villages that were identified by the DRVs, two are situated at the close proximity to the Krishna River and one is at the close proximity to the Bhogawati River. Though the villages are having concrete structures and better rural infrastructure, the sudden flash floods that happened in the last few days due to the unplanned releases of nearby dams following the historical monsoon rains caused heavy damage. The government is already trying to assist the people in the relief and recovery. But, these villages weren't focused much.

.

Villages - Shirati, Umalwad, and Kothali.
District - Kolhapur
State - Maharashtra

Shirati and Umalwad are close to Sangli but are within the Kolhapur District range. Kothali is very close to Kolhapur main.

no. of families - 1700

The DRVs had about 1750 family kits (8+ tonnes). Those were distributed to the families in the respective villages.

Relief activity - Success.
Rehabilitation feasibility - Uncertain.
Comprehensive survey - Incomplete.

These materials were brought and distributed by the DRVs that came from Daman. They weren't able to do a comprehensive survey as they're all employees and wouldn't be able to stay there for survey during the weekdays. So, if possible, our DRV - Bhuvanesh will try to do a survey to understand the ground situation a bit more.

Also, the second despatch of about 2.5 to 3 tonnes from Silvassa will be arriving soon. Those materials will be made as kits and will be distributed at the villages in Sangli district by him in upcoming days based on a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative survey.

Gratitude, credits and kudos to BD Patil and all the volunteers of Daman. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

: Phase - 3 Relief Activity.

23-08-19 (Friday) - Assam

Incharge - Binanda
Total volunteers on field - 6

.
The villages that the DRVs identified were found to be in the very close proximity to the Brahmaputra River and is always in a vulnerability of the floods. Since the villages around the basins of the river are establishments that are made long back and the people over there are residing there for generations, they are quite used to these risks. But, due to their settlements and employment opportunities they dwell there despite of the yearly havoc. The state government is very less active in providing necessary facilities to the people in order to be prepared for the disaster due to which the mitigation is quite challenging.

.

Village - Hajobori
Taluk - Chandrapur
District - Kamrup
State - Assam

Our DRVs identified a small village settlement in Hajobori and two settlements in Chandrapur main.

Families in - 140
Families in - 90 and 50 respectively in two neighbouring settlements.

We had ~350 family kits out of which the kits were distributed to the families in these villages. The additional kits were given away to the critically deserving families on equity basis.

Also about 30 kits were given to the locals that supported our DRVs to do this activity and about 10 kits were given to the vehicle driver and the labourer that accompanied the vehicle.

activity - Success.
feasibility - Uncertain.
Comprehensive survey - Incomplete.

The data collection amidst the distribution rush was quite difficult and since this village was very recently identified, we weren't able to do a quantitative survey and analysis on ground. It pending works will be done soon while our DRVs go to Assam for rehabilitation in Jorhat District.

With this, we're officially winding up the relief activities of Chennai4Assam Initiative in Assam. We'll now focus on Bihar with the highest priority and eventually execute the mobilization for Maharashtra as well. Upon successful completion of these tasks, we'll be returning to Assam with an handful of pre-rehabilitation materials in the form of family kits and will distribute it to the 350+ families in Malowpather Village. By that time we'll have enough data to quantitatively and qualitatively study and explain the needs of the village to the sponsors and to redirect the support through our systematic disaster management model.

Thank you all for your support throughout our journey in relieving Assam. Special thanks to Binanda Xaikia for being one among the reason to begin this intiative. Also, our sincere gratitude to the Arrchie Borthakur - Priyobondhu NGO that has been supporting us on field in Assam from the beginning.

Let's move on to relive and with the same integrity and support. Let's continue ensuring humanity beyond borders. ❤

Yes! We DID FOR ASSAM. 💪🏻

Amazon fires: How bad have they got? 23/08/2019

//The Amazon basin - home to about three million species of plants and animals, and one million indigenous people - is crucial to regulating global warming, with its forests absorbing millions of tonnes of carbon emissions every year.

But when trees are cut or burned, the carbon they are storing is released into the atmosphere and the rainforest's capacity to absorb carbon emissions is reduced.//

An insightful article on the 'man-made disaster' that's happening in Amazonas by BBC. Check it out once.

Amazon fires: How bad have they got? Thousands of fires are ravaging the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. How bad are they?

19/08/2019

The very moment when we as a team inspired someone like Jacinta - a senior social worker from Muscat, to call herself a ( ), we created the ripples of change through the Chennai4Assam Initiative.

This is the change that we wished to inculcate in every single volunteer's especially in young ones' mind. Only when a regular volunteer realises his/her role as a DRV during the times of a disaster, the term humanity is ensured beyond borders. ❤

Yes, like Jacinta said, we are going to continue our works in Maharashtra too. Once we complete the works in Assam and Bihar, immediately we'll jump into action to relieve the people of Kolhapur and Sangili Districts of Maharashtra.

Who else is proud to be a DRV? Let us know your thoughts. 😇

17/08/2019

Can ensure humanity? Yes. It will! ☺️

Our Disaster Response Volunteers have been working on field in flooded districts of Assam for almost three weeks. We somehow managed the expenditures with the meagre funds that we could raise in the last few days. Now, since we're at the brink of the relief activity, we have to wind it up as quickly and effectively as possible
But, there's a critical financial deficit from our side - it is slowing down the progress of the initiative.

This is a collective effort of hundreds of volunteers. Several donors and sponsors have kind-heartedly helped in propelling the initiative till date.

A disaster is a real-time humanitarian crisis. It is hard to integrate people and to work for the betterment of the innocent victims that are affected during a disaster.

But,
We are still hustling. We still have hope.
We cannot stop it here, we finish this whatever be the situation, whatever be the problem.
We will stand for the fellow humans.

Support us. Donate us.
1 kind heart - 10 Rs.
100 kind hearts - 10x100 = 1000 Rs.
We can make it possible, if we try. 🤞🏻

Kindly donate 10 Rs. now and help us continue our works in Assam, Bihar, and Maharashtra. 🙏🏻
