Winners of Qur’an memorization award honored in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar honored the winners of the 25th session of the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Award for Qur’an Memorization, Recitation and Interpretation.

Upon his arrival at the venue, Prince Faisal was received by Najran Gov. Prince Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed; Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh; Media Minister Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossary; and the general director of the religious affairs administration of the Saudi Armed Forces, Musfer bin Hassan Al-Essa.
Al-Asheikh extended his congratulations to more than 3,000 male and female participants, specifically the 125 contestants who qualified for the final stages, and the winners in the various branches of the competition. He also thanked the Saudi leadership for its attention and support in this regard.
He affirmed the competition’s impact on boys and girls in the country, encouraging them to memorize, recite and understand the meanings of the Holy Qur’an.
Attendees also had the opportunity to view a visual presentation showcasing information and statistics about the current session of the award.

Saudi ministry reiterates hospitality rules in Makkah and Madinah during Umrah, Hajj seasons

RIYADH: Tourism and hospitality operators in Makkah and Madinah have been reminded they must follow all regulations, instructions and guidelines that apply to them, along with the contents of circulars issued by the General Directorate of Civil Defense, to help keep pilgrims and other visitors safe during Umrah season in the holy month of Ramadan, and the upcoming Hajj season.

The Saudi Ministry of Tourism said on Thursday that all facilities must have officially approved evacuation plans in place in case of emergencies, and strategies for responding to a range hypothetical situations that might arise, developed in coordination with Civil Defense.

The ministry said the reminder is part of its efforts to ensure public safety and provide quality services that meet all requirements of regulations governing the sector.

Qassim date markets flourish during Ramadan

BURAIDAH: The bustling date markets in Qassim and surrounding provinces have experienced a surge in supply and demand, attracting citizens and residents as they seek out the finest varieties available. The buying frenzy has been evident across marketplaces and retail outlets.

The market has abundant quantities of diverse date varieties, given their essential role on iftar tables during Ramadan. Various commercial establishments are vying to offer a wide selection of dates, including popular varieties such as Sukkari, Kholas, Rotana, Barhi, Sagai, and more.

During a recent visit to the date markets by the Saudi Press Agency, several vendors confirmed the selling prices per kilogram of dates, with Sukkari dates fetching up to SR50 ($13.33), Kholas dates priced at SR40, and Sagai dates at SR30. A box of Sukkari Rutab dates was priced between SR25 and SR50.

Many shoppers talked about the heightened demand for Sukkari dates from Qassim, Rotana dates from Madinah and Kholas dates from Al-Ahsa. They highlighted the increase in date prices coinciding with the start of Ramadan, emphasizing the cultural significance of dates beyond their nutritional value.

Dates hold deep cultural importance, being intertwined with traditions and customs passed down through generations. Their presence on the Ramadan table reflects adherence to the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad.

Umrah program guests embrace Makkah’s heritage

MAKKAH: The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance on Thursday hosted a cultural event for the beneficiaries of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Guests Program for Hajj and Umrah.

The event was held at the guests’ accommodation near the Grand Mosque in Makkah and comprised an evening of culture and entertainment.

One of the highlights was a presentation on the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa covering its history and the process of manufacturing the kiswa.

The evening ended with the distribution of gifts and the taking of commemorative photographs.

The attendees thanked the Saudi leadership for the warm hospitality they had received since arriving in the Kingdom.

The participants represented the fourth and final batch of beneficiaries of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Guests Program for Hajj and Umrah for 2024.

Crown prince prays at Prophet’s Mosque, hosts citizens during visit to Madinah

RIYADH: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted a number of citizens on a visit to Madinah.

He greeted a number of distinguished scholars and other dignitaries, the Saudi Press Agency reported early on Thursday.

He then prayed at the Prophet’s Mosque and Quba Mosque.

Prince Mohammed arrived in the Prophet’s City on Wednesday and was received by the province’s governor upon his arrival.

The SPA reported early on Thursday that the crown prince left Madinah.

He held a similar event for citizens in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Tuesday on the occasion of Ramadan, which began on Monday
