The Next OnePlus Flagship Is Coming in January
OnePlus may have lost its steam this year compared to other Android phone makers—namely Google with its impressive Pixel 6—but the company has a new smartphone up its sleeve.
OnePlus cofounder and CEO Pete Lau recently teased the OnePlus 10 series on the Chinese social network Weibo. Lau posted the name “OnePlus 10 Pro” as a hashtag, then, “see you in January.” As you might expect, fans are excited.

What’s interesting is that Lau only mentioned the Pro model of the next OnePlus. A noted tipster tweeted rumblings from the rumor mill that it’s likely there will only be one product in the OnePlus 10 series. Typically, OnePlus launches two versions at a time—a regular and a Pro—followed by a third “T” model that tends to be geared toward power users. However, OnePlus canceled the 9T this year.

It’s also worth noting that this is a tad early for OnePlus to be introducing a new flagship device. Previously, the brand launched its new products right after Samsung finished with its Galaxy showcase, in the March/April timeframe.

The OnePlus 10 Pro would be the first OnePlus release under the Oppo brand umbrella. OnePlus has been connected to parent company Oppo since its inception, but this year, the company announced that “deeper integration” with Oppo was in the works.

Realme's Galaxy S22 rival runs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, lands Jan. 4

Realme is all set to launch the GT 2 series in China on January 4.

Realme's 2022 flagship GT 2 series is launching in China on January 4.

The GT 2 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and make its global debut in Q1 2022.

The device has a unique back cover made out of eco-friendly materials and is designed by Naoto Fukasawa.

In 2021, Realme hit the 100 million phone sales landmark, arriving at the figure faster than any other brand to date. It did so on the back of stellar sales in the budget segment — its devices are among the best budget Android phones — offering a similar caliber of hardware and software as Xiaomi.

Realme releases a lot of devices over the course of the year, but it looks like it is thankfully not going to do that for 2022, instead focusing on a few differentiated devices that stand out in each category. To kick things off, Realme has announced that it will unveil the GT 2 series in China on January 4, with a global launch followed shortly thereafter.

Realme is clearly excited for the GT 2 series, calling it the brand's "most premium flagship line-up ever." That's understandable when you consider that the GT 2 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm's latest 4nm beast, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Realme will be one of the first manufacturers to roll out a device featuring the latest from Qualcomm, narrowly losing out to Xiaomi, who is launching the Xiaomi 12 series a week earlier on December 28.

OnePlus 10 Pro launch confirmed for January 2022

OnePlus founder Pete Lau has confirmed that the brand’s upcoming OnePlus 10 Pro flagship will arrive in January. The news was confirmed via a post made by the executive on the Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo.
The OnePlus 10 Pro will arrive with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chispet. Accroding to previous leaks and rumors, the OnePlus 10 Pro will have an improved 32MP selfie camera. There’s also word of a 6.7-inch LPTO QHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate with the selfie camera punch hole cut out in the same upper corner.
The 10 Pro will feature 12GB of LPDDR5 Ram and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. The triple camera system is said to consist of a similar setup as the 9 Pro with a 48MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, and an 8MP 3.3X telephoto camera. Rumors point to a 5,000 mAh battery, supposedly supporting 80W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging.

We now know that the OnePlus 10 Pro will launch in China next month, but there’s not yet any word on when the new flagship would arrive to global markets – that was rumored to be April.

Amazon Prime Membership price increased

The rate hike will apply to all the different types of memberships the company offers. Amazon will continue to offer access to Prime Video, Amazon Music, Prime Reading, and Prime Gaming under the same membership package. So, keeping that in mind, the annual package will now cost Rs 1,499.

For now, the hike in price will not affect existing Prime members as they will still continue with their current membership. Again, just to reiterate, no other services will be added to the existing ones with the price hike. The original plan was introduced for Rs 499, with a later increase to Rs 999. This marks the second time Amazon has hiked the price of its Prime Membership.

Indian government delays crypto bill, may not be tabled during winter session of Parliament

The government is of the opinion that some aspects of the bill need more deliberation, discussions, and comments from the public

HIGHLIGHTS

The government is looking to delay the upcoming crypto bill.

It is mulling changes to the proposed legislation’s framework.

This bill could ban the use of cryptocurrencies.

The Indian government is working on a new bill to regulate the crypto industry in India. This bill was expected to be tabled in the lower house of the parliament during the winter session. However, ahead of the tabling of this proposed bill, reports now claim that the bill has been delayed by several weeks, with the government not looking to table it in the winter session anymore.
As per a report by The Economic Times, the government is thinking of changes to the proposed legislation’s framework, which would mean the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021, will now be tabled in the next session of the parliament.
The government is of the opinion that some aspects of the bill need more deliberation, discussions, and comments from the public. These include the government bringing in a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) which will be recognised under the RBI Act. Another reason for this is the government's belief that the new law for cryptocurrencies needs to be in line with a global framework which is still a work in progress.

Realme GT Neo3 and Xiaomi Redmi K50 said to both use a Dimensity 8000 chipset

Reputable leakster Digital Chat Station recently dropped an interesting bit of info on two upcoming phones - the Realme GT Neo3 and the Xiaomi Redmi K50. Both will, apparently, be using MediaTek's Dimensity 8000 chipset. The Dimensity 8000 is yet to be announced and was recently teased by the company as sort of an affordable step-down from the eagerly-anticipated and already official Dimensity 9000 flagship.

We still don't have all of the details on the Dimensity 8000, but as far as we know, it will be manufactured on TSMC's 5nm process, instead of the 4nm cutting-edge node of the Dimensity 9000, but a step up from the 6nm process on the Dimensity 1000 series of chips. The Dimensity 800 is also expected to skip on the new ARM Cortex-A710 and A510 designs and stick with older ARMv8 ones - four Cortex-A78 (2.75 GHz) and four A*5 (2.0 GHz) CPU cores, though coupled with a new Mali-G510 MC6 GPU, said to be twice as fast and 22% more efficient than its predecessor. The Dimensity 8000 is expected to offer FullHD+ at up to 168Hz and QHD+ at 120Hz display support, LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage.

It hardly comes as a surprise that the Realme GT Neo3 and the Xiaomi Redmi K50 will be going up against one another with similar specs sheets. At least in some of their variants, that is, since this is currently the case with the vanilla Redmi K40 the Realme GT Neo2, both rocking a Snapdragon 870 chipset, as well as a slew of other very close similarities. The Realme GT Neo2 is still a relatively new device that debuted in China in late September and only made its way to Europe last month, whereas the Redmi K40 has been around for a bit longer, since March and a bit later in Europe as the Xiaomi Poco F3. We can thus expect their successors to also potentially arrive a few months apart.

It is also interesting to note that Xiaomi VP and General Manager of Redmi Lu Weibing already confirmed that the flagship Dimensity 9000 chip will also be coming to the Redmi K50 line as well. That will probably be reserved for the K50 Gaming edition, though. As for Oppo, we expect to see the Dimensity 9000 appear on the vanilla Find X4, with the Find X4 Pro likely rocking Qualcomm's competing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

Don’t upgrade to OxygenOS 12 if you use a Google Camera port with auxiliary camera support

OnePlus recently rolled out OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12 to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. While the update brought many new features to the flagships, it also introduced a litany of bugs. Users reported facing a wide range of issues in the stable OxygenOS 12 release, ranging from poor animations to problems making and receiving calls. As a result, OnePlus ended up halting the rollout to address all the bugs. While OnePlus may soon release an updated build with a bunch of bug fixes, you shouldn’t install it on your phone if you use a Google Camera port.

According to a recent post on the Google Camera Port Updates Telegram channel, the OxygenOS 12 update blocks access to the auxiliary cameras, preventing users from utilizing their phone’s wide-angle and telephoto cameras with the modded camera app. That’s because OxygenOS 12 shares its codebase with OPPO’s ColorOS, and the latter has had this limitation in place for a while.
For the unaware, Google Camera ports only supported the primary camera on OnePlus devices up until last year. But that changed when XDA Senior Member Urnyx05 released a port for the OnePlus 8 series that enabled the telephoto and wide-angle sensors on the device. Shortly thereafter, Wichaya’s Google Camera port received an update that enabled auxiliary camera support on many devices without requiring root. However, the Google Camera ports didn’t support OPPO devices due to a limitation in ColorOS. Now that OxygenOS is pretty much ColorOS with an additional skin on top, it too has the same limitation.

So, if you use a Google Camera port on your OnePlus device, we’d recommend sticking to OxygenOS 11 until a workaround is available. You can, however, install OxygenOS 12 (whenever OnePlus rolls it out again) if you only plan on using the primary camera on your device with the modded Google Camera app.

OnePlus resumes OxygenOS 12 rollout for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro

OnePlus rolled out the first stable build of OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12 to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro earlier this month. However, just a few days after the rollout started, OnePlus pulled the update as many early adopters reported facing various issues. OnePlus now seems to have addressed all the issues, as it has resumed the OxygenOS 12 rollout for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

The new OxygenOS 12 stable update (build number C.39) for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro has started rolling out to users, according to a recent post on the OnePlus Community forums. The update brings the following changes:

System

Improved the smoothness of fingerprint unlocking

Optimized the system power consumption to extend the battery life

Fixed the issue of screen tearing when back to the home screen in some games

Fixed the issue that the notification bar showed a blank bar

Updated Android Security Patch to 2021.12

Camera

Improved the startup speed of the application

Improved the image effect of the rear camera

Network

Fixed the issue that failed to connect to the mobile data in certain scenarios

Note that the new OxygenOS 12 release is only available for the global and Indian variants of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro so far. As always, OnePlus is rolling out the update in a staged fashion, so it may be a while before the update notification pops up on your device. If you don’t want to wait, you can download the update package from the links.

OnePlus Nord, Nord N100, and Nord CE receive new OxygenOS updates with bug fixes and improvements

OnePlus has been doing a decent job of delivering security updates to its devices, even after the ColorOS merger. What’s even better is that it’s not just the flagships that are getting this treatment. Budget devices, part of the Nord lineup, have also been receiving frequent updates. The OnePlus Nord N100, the original OnePlus Nord, and the OnePlus Nord CE are the latest in line to receive stable OxygenOS builds with updated security patches, bug fixes, and other improvements.
OxgenOS 11.0.4 for the OnePlus Nord N100

There’s no official announcement from OnePlus as of yet regarding this update, which means we don’t have an official changelog of what’s included. But we can confirm that it includes the Android security patches for December 2021. Other than that, you can expect the update to include general bug fixes and other improvements. The Oxygen OS 11.0.4 update is an incremental jump from OxygenOS 11.0.3 and it’s currently rolling out for the global variant of the device.
OxygenOS 11.0.12.12 for the OnePlus Nord CE

Just like the OnePlus Nord N200, the Nord CE has also received a minor update. However, this update is still on the November 2021 security patch level. OnePlus had already rolled out the November security patches for the Nord CE late last month, so this seems to be an incremental update that brings a few fixes and changes. Again, there’s no official announcement about the update so far, but a user on the OnePlus Community forums has shared a screenshot of the new update (Build Number: 11.0.12.12.EB13DA). The changelog is as follows:

Optimized the UI display effect of the setting interface

Fixed the issue of low probability of not receiving messages

OxygenOS 11.1.7.7 for the OnePlus Nord

OnePlus has also rolled out an update for the first-gen OnePlus Nord. Just like the other two releases, OnePlus has not made an official announcement for this update either. The security patch level on this update is November 2021. The update brings some bug fixes and improvements across the UI. Here’s the official change log for the update:

Fixed the issue of probable failure of call forwarding function

Improved system stability and fixed general bugs

Updated Android Security Patch to 2021.11
