THDC India Limited (THDCIL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise, and IIT Delhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) forging a collaborative partnership dedicated to advancing research and development activities in Science, Engineering, and Technology.

Sh. S. K. Chauhan, HoD (R&D) from THDCIL, and Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar, Dean (R&D), IIT Delhi, signed the MoU on October 12, 2023. The agreement is set to span five years.

IIT Delhi renewed the Memorandum of Understanding for academic cooperation with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. The MoU originally signed in 2018 was renewed on 30th October 2023 for another 5 years. To further strengthen the joint collaborative research between the two institutions and to increase the Joint Doctoral Program Activities, a team of IIT Delhi faculty members including Dean R&D visited NYCU in December 2023.

On behalf of IIT Delhi, Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar (Dean R&D) and Sh. R SUBRAHMANYAM (Founding Member, CRISP) signed the MoU between Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and the Centre for Research in Schemes and Policies (CRISP).

CRISP will assist UBA in guiding the UBA institutions to localize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), utilizing Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for their achievement, encouraging active Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) participation, preparing Village Poverty Reduction Plans, and determining modalities for integrating the work of Women Self-Help Groups.

IIT Delhi has signed a MoU with (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) and Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi (ICMR) for setting up the ICMR Centre of Excellence for Neurosurgery Medical Devices. This CoE will focus on the development of Make-in-India multifunctional surgical instrumentation for critical neurosurgeries & Computer-Assisted-Neurosurgery navigation system for skill development.

IIT Delhi and the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York signed an MoU for collaborative research and academic programmes.

The objective of this agreement is to establish a multi-institute collaborative research framework by creating the IIT Delhi – UB Joint Center of Excellence (CoE) in Quantum Photonics at and administered by IIT Delhi. This centre will advance long-term multi-institutional and international collaboration in educational and research fields relevant to the academic, scientific, industrial, social and cultural interests and needs of both countries.

The research focus for this CoE will be on advancing Quantum Science by developing new physics, quantum materials and quantum photonics technologies for a broad range of applications in communications, optoelectronics, imaging and sensing.

Research projects and resource allocations, etc. for this CoE will be co-directed by Prof. Joby Joseph, Head of the Optics and Photonics Center at IIT Delhi, and Professor Paras Prasad, Executive Director of the Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics at UB.

An MoU was signed on December 21, 2022 between IIT Delhi and GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited for establishing the GMR Center of Excellence (CoE) for New Energy Technologies. The CoE will undertake research and academic activities for interdisciplinary research and innovation in areas of new energy technologies. Professor P.M.V. Subbarao, Head, Centre for Rural Development and Technology (CRDT), will be the coordinator for this Centre of Excellence.

NHPC Limited and IIT Delhi Sign MoA
NHPC Limited, Faridabad, and IIT Delhi signed an MoA on 21st November 2022. This MoA desires to avail services of IIT Delhi for undertaking various activities e.g. training, research, and advisory studies within its expertise for ongoing and future activities of NHPC within and outside the Country.
IIT Delhi shall provide training, R&D, and advisory session services in various fields including hydro, hydrology, water resources, geology, earthquake, renewable energy, and environmental management to NHPC as mutually agreed.

Department of Telecommunications R&D Centre C-DOT and IIT Delhi Sign MoU for Cooperation in Various Emerging Areas of Telecom
The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier telecom R&D centre of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India and IIT Delhi have signed an MoU for cooperation in various areas of telecom spanning IoT/M2M, AI/ML, Cyber Security and 5G & Beyond technologies on September 27, 2022.
This MoU aims to evolve a mutually productive framework for collaboration between R&D and academia to spur the design & development of wholly indigenous Telecom solutions. This will be an effective platform for the exchange of knowledge and skill amongst students, faculty and researchers right from the stage of ideation and conceptualization. The platform would act as a catalyst to further the transition of novel ideas into market-ready solutions.
Both C-DOT and IIT Delhi posed their trust in the efficacy of this collaborative platform and reiterated their firm commitments towards taking this further with resounding success.

University College of London (UCL) & IITD to jointly support seven (7) research seed grant projects in the area of Sustainable Solar Fuel Production, Understanding the Regional Hydroclimate, Transnational Pedagogy, Reactor Configuration on Synthesis of Nanoparticles, Modelling Studies to Ascertain the Soil-continuum Interface Characteristics, Tuning the Charge Transport in Organic Semiconductors, and Predicting superalloys.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) Signed an MoU

An MoU was signed on September 01, 2022 between IIT Delhi and the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), New Delhi to pursue collaborative research with CARI, Jhansi on the development of devices to remove heavy metals, especially mercury. The total cost of the project is about INR 1.94 cr for a period of 3 years.

Delft University of Technology (TUD)-IITD joint workshop & Collaborative Projects - IITD & TUD jointly conducted a workshop in the areas of Energy, Water, Environment, policy, machine learning, and bio with an aim to bring together the faculty members of both the institute for sharing research interests for the joint MFIRP call and future research collaboration.
TUD-IITD to jointly support four joint projects in the areas of Mu-robot for Lunar Exploration, Climate-policy models to include social equity, Biogas-SOFC system for decentralized green hydrogen and power production, & Design of water desalination and water purification unit.

ICMR has funded a specialized centre - Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Disability & Assistive Technology (CARE-DAT) at IIT Delhi, as communicated by Prof. Amit Mehndiratta, Associate Professor, Centre for Biomedical Engineering. This centre is mandated to design technological solutions, therapeutic protocols and clinical validation for solutions that can facilitate rehabilitation of patients with stroke.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) has developed a handheld device for “early and rapid” detection of dengue. The device uses Raman Spectroscopy technique and results are available in an hour.
The research work was funded by the IMPRINT India program of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.

IRD Schemes for Student Research - 2020

R&D Unit, IIT Delhi has been supporting student research activities through specially designed research schemes to encourage the young students towards solving problems through scientific and technological research. The involvement in such pursuits at early/ undergraduate level provides many advantages to the students viz.: establishing ties to faculty, acquiring data-gathering and laboratory techniques, exploring the frontiers of a field, understanding the problems, undertaking topics not encompassed in the classroom, and establishing a focus for higher academics.

Recently following eight project proposals of IRD Students Scheme of Call-2020 have been supported:

I. Discover and Learn (1-2-3-4) projects

1. On-line, wide-range, low-cost sensor for biomass concentration
2. Control and data acquisition for cold atom quantum technology
3. Managing safety at construction sites using digital technology
4. Developing an application for semantic tagging of video sequences for stochastic modelling of reactive systems
5. Digitalisation in Healthcare

II. IRD Student Startup Action projects

1. Block chain implementation of HER
2. Spirited AI
3. An energy-efficient permanent magnets and switched reluctance motors for two-wheelers EV
This will feed good learning outcomes in the projects by young minds.

IIT-D develops smart charging station for EVs with built-in solar capability 23/03/2021

IIT Delhi develops environment-friendly, smart and modular electric vehicle charger.

A 20 kW Smart EV charging station has been developed by the Smart Grid Lab of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the institute. It can charge a wide range of EVs like cars, three-wheelers and two-wheelers.
