India's new foreign trade policy(FTP)
Context: Indian government is expected to rolled out before the end of the financial year
Key points:
👉The current FTP which was designed for 2015- 2020 was later extended till 2023 in wake of pandemic outbreak
👉India achieved goods and services exports worth $650 billion in 2021-22
👉Input duty remission schemes, such as the RoDTEP and the RoSCTL are already in place
The features of new policy
👉Focus on the whole of the government
👉Targeting annual export of $2 trillion (both goods and services) by 2030
👉Several facilitation programmes to encourage export
👉The likely absence of substantial subsidies in new FTP
👉Becoming top 3 in global services trade in tourism, IT & ITES, business services and financial services is another top priority of the government
