"Treat all user input as evil, especially for APIs in the context of mobile apps. User data can originate in many places and it’s not only restricted to form submissions at the users … It includes anything that comes from the client - request headers, file uploads, user agents, even the metadata of a file upload. For e.g., if you are uploading a PDF, the metadata of the pdf could contain malicious data because at the backend when your API is processing the PDF file, the metadata may get consumed in a context that you are not even aware of."
