An alumnus of Savitribai Phule Pune University-University of Pune, Mrs. Ujjwala Karle is an engineering graduate, with over 30 years of experience in the field of Automotive Electrics and Electronic Control Development. She currently leads the technology group at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), as the Digital Twin Lab, focusing on providing engineering solutions for the Indian mobility.

In this talk, participants will get an opportunity to listen to her journey in the sector, along with many different adventures and stories, including being part of the first team ever in India, to produce the elctronic fuel injection system installed in fiat cars.

Pune Knowledge Cluster in collaboration with Samuchit Enviro Tech, and for Sustainable Development at Gokhale Institute for Politics and Economics hosted 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐛 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, which aimed at promoting discussions on and .

Dr. Priya Nagaraj (CEO, PKC) while welcoming all attendees said that PKC’s work over the past years with various in the sustainability sector has led to the conceptualization of the conclave, where PKC, as a cluster aims to provide a platform for active , and conceptualization of novel projects.

The conclave hosted thematic talks by experts in different areas on topics surrounding - , policy & ethics of , the need of carbon accounting frameworks, the role of and in sustaining practices and innovative business models for establishing carbon-neutral infrastructures. Apart from the thematic talks by professionals, the conclave also hosted discussions, moderated by experts from and , where participants shared their individual perspectives and thoughts on achieving goals through their respective .

With a presence of over 60 attendees, comprising , as well as , the conclave served as a unique platform for not only networking, but also enabling and in the sustanability sector.

Principal Scientific Adviser to GoI BASF (BASF Chemicals India Pvt. Ltd.)

Under the ChemAmaze program, PKC conducted the level 2 training workshop, where educators were introduced to the concept of making their own games, using various online tools.

The trainers - Mr. Kartic Vaidyanathan and Ms. Surbhi Garg, curated two educational games, and provided detailed demonstrations of how each game could be effectively utilized within a classroom setting. Apart from this, they also introduced the workshop participants to two online tools - Puzzel and Quizizz which could be used by the teachers to develop customized games tailored to their unique teaching styles and curricula.

We were glad to see an enthusiastic participation of around 50 teachers, and would love to incorporate their feedback into our upcoming workshops.

PKC together with various stakeholders launched a first-of-its-kind open-source database, which hosts retrospective COVID-19 data from 2000 patients across .

While talking about the conceptualization and development of the database, Dr. Priya Nagaraj (CEO, PKC) said that the is a great example of how a approach can be used effectively to bring various to work together to solve problems of relevance at scale.

Ms. Priyanki Shah (Senior Project Manager, Health at PKC) took the attendees through the history of conceptualization of database, and elaborated upon the primary goals of the database, which included the creation of a modular, scalable pipeline to collect, digitize, collate, curate, integrate and analyze heterogenous retrospective clinical data.

Ms. Niharika Gogate (Research Assistant, Health at PKC) who has been instrumental in collecting and collating information for the database, conducted a live demonstration of the database, which captures over 100 different clinical parameters, collected from patient IPD files – including: vitals, supplemental oxygen, lab investigations, pre-existing conditions (such as- hypertension, diabetes, cancer) and others.

The primary aim of the database is to make the data available to all interested stakeholders for further exploratory use. Insights generated from the database will be crucial for:
👉 Enhancing research output
👉 Helping policy makers in making informed decisions
👉 Improving the general health of the public through identification of high-risk populations, development of personalized treatment plans and providing an early warning system.

PKC's Teach with Tech Initiative, in collaboration with Lenovo India aims to support with infrastructure.

In the last academic year, we partnered with Meghshala Trust and distributed tablets with e-lessons covering several in and which were mapped to the curriculum of 6th to 8th grade students, from semi-english and marathi medium schools. The teachers were provided with extensive for delivering lessons to the students, using the tablets.

Through this initiative, we were able to reach out to 1100 and 160 in 25 schools across .

PKC was glad to be a part of the panel discussion on - 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐃𝐆𝐬, at an event jointly organized by Ecosan Services Foundation and Indian Water Works Association on the occasion of . The event marked an official launch of the 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, which proposes to catalyze the Academia-Industry synergy for accelerating the goals of SDG6, through various activities for students and other relevant .

Dr. Ashwini Keskar, Program Manager- sustainability & environment, PKC shared insights about leveraging to drive projects within the sector, by giving the attendees an insight into PKC's initiatives in this sector- mainly, the participatory action plan developed by PKC.

According to the UN, more than 3 billion people worldwide depend on water that crosses national borders. Yet, out of the 153 countries that share rivers, lakes and aquifers with their neighbours, only 24 countries report having cooperation agreements for all their shared .

‘s growing population and impact of parameters means that there is a dire need to collaborate within and between countries and ensure that the objectives of sustainable development goal 6 (SDG 6) are achieved; and water truly becomes an intrinsic human right, while acting as a beacon of peace amidst the current global challenges.

PKC strives to contribute towards this through active not only within the country, but also by being a part of global networks that work in the water and sanitation sector.

We are in a process of making a participatory sustainable water action plan for Pune metropolitan region. This will act as a decision support system for all especially local and state .
