Thank You Jagdeesh for sharing your rich experience on Natural Farming with us this evening.
This is a Climate Convo with Jagdeesh, an Innovative Farmer from Andhra Pradesh on Natural Farming 4 Climate Action.
Nature Farming is a holistic method in which farmers are discouraged to buy market based inputs like chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides etc. for growing plants within zero budget and encouraged to grow healthy soil with friendly earthworms and thereby grow healthy plants.
Jagadeesh Reddy is a farmer from Chittor in Andhra Pradesh, India; quit his polytechnic studies to practice natural farming. Having received many accolades for his farming efforts from various government and private agencies and institutions, he is on a mission to convert India's farmers to natural farming.
His Agriculture land has been brought into natural farming through ZBNF methods (Zero Budge Natural farming) where he cultivates Paddy, Groundnut, Sugarcane and Mango. In recognition of relentless pursuit of the goal to liberate farm produces from chemical fertilizers, the Indian Agriculture and Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi conferred the âInnovative Farmerâ award on Mr. Reddy. Andhra Pradesh recognized him as âAadarsa Rythuâ and National Nutritional Health Sciences has awarded him for his farming techniques.
He practices the methodology which involves locally obtainable natural bio-degradable materials and combines scientific knowledge of ecology and modern technology with traditional farming practices based on naturally occurring biological processes which are promoted by agri-scientists like Subhash Palekar.
The principal methods of Nature Farming include crop rotation, green manures and compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation. These measures use the natural environment to enhance agricultural productivity: legumes are planted to fix nitrogen into the soil, natural insect predators are encouraged, crops are rotated to confuse pests and renew soil, and natural materials such as potassium bicarbonate and mulches are used to control disease and weeds. Natural farmers are careful in their selection of plant breeds, and organic researchers produce hardier plants through plant breeding rather than genetic engineering.
âNatural farming will protect a farmer from huge loss for sure. It also helps save on the huge expenditure involved with chemicals. More importantly, the crop you produce is healthy, away from the risks of life-threatening ailments,â he says.
Mr. Reddyâs farm has now become a laboratory, attracting hundreds of students every week to have a look at the natural farming methods. He understands the relationships between organisms and their environment and concentrates his efforts towards fulfilling these major objectives: Practicing natural farming, sharing this knowledge with farmers and the general public and delivering the naturally grown food to people. By following these objectives he wants to save soil health, environmental health as well as the health of people around him.
While not tending to his farm, he travels around the country addressing farmers and farmer unions educating them about the benefits of natural farming. Deeply affected by the rising farmer suicides, he aims to help farmers out of the cycle of poverty by eradicating chemical based farming methods. He has inspired and personally supports many other local farmers and helps them find a market for their produce.
Join Us tomorrow the 28th Nov from 5-6 PM IST Facebook Live in a Climate Convo with Jagdeesh, an Innovative Farmer from Andhra Pradesh on Natural Farming 4 Climate Action.

There are somethingâs that we cannot change. The gravity, entropy, the speed of light, and our biological nature require clean air, clean water, clean soil, clean energy, and biodiversity for our health and well-being.
Protecting the biosphere should be our highest priority or else we sicken and die.
Other things like Capitalism, Free Enterprise, the Economy, Currency, the Market, are not Forces of Nature.
We invented them. They are not immutable.
We Can Change Them.
It makes no sense to elevate economics above the Biosphere.
Global Warming is Global Warming, Beware!
Letâs get serious as our leaders have failed us, So Climate Action Now.
This is an International panel on climate change on the eve of world children's day.
United Nations Universal Childrenâs Day on November 20th was chosen as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child celebrated each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improve children's welfare.
International Children's Day has a theme set up by UNICEF.
This yearâs theme for International Children's Day is, 'Investing in our future means investing in our children.
It focuses on one of the primary children's rights, such as a right for clean water and a safe climate, or the right for education without disruptions.
It's a tradition to have an awareness talk on that day with the Children. The blue color is the symbol for children's rights on Children's Day.
Join Us in a Partner Event with UNICEF in an International Climate Panel on the eve of World Children's Day, the 20th November 2021 from 5.00 - 6.30 PM IST Facebook Live.
