अर्धशक्त्या निषेव्यस्तु बलिभि: स्निग्धभोजिभि:।
शीतकाले वसन्ते च मन्दमेव ततो अन्यदा।। (अष्टांग ह्रदय संहिता सुत्र २।११)
One who is strong and eat unctuous food everyday should use half of one’s energy to do व्यायाम. Same to be done in winter season and autumn. In summer and rainy season, one should use less than half energy to do व्यायाम .
चरक कहते हैं, ‘‘मन, आत्मा और शरीर ऐसे तीन स्तंभ हैं जिन पर न केवल मानव जाति का बल्कि विश्व का अस्तित्व टिका हुआ है।’’
सत्त्वमात्मा शरीरं च भयमेतत्भिदण्डवत।"
लोकस्तिष्ठित संयोगात्तत्र सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम्।।" -चरक सू. अ. 7/46
हिताहितं सुखं दुःखं आयुस्तस्य हिताहितम् ।
मानं च तच्च यत्रोक्तं आयुर्वेदः स उच्यते ॥ च.सू.३.४१॥
अर्थात् हितायु, अहितायु, सुखायु एवं दुःखायु; इस प्रकार चतुर्विध जो आयु है उस आयु के हित तथा अहित अर्थात् पथ्य और अपथ्य आयु का प्रमाण एवं उस आयु का स्वरूप जिसमें कहा गया हो, वह आर्युवेद कहा जाता है।

In Ayurveda, the masures advised for leading a healthy life are called Svastha-Vṛtta. While explaining health, Suśruta says:
समदोषः समाग्निश्च समधातुमलक्रियः।
प्रसन्नात्मेन्द्रियमन: स्वस्थ इत्यभिधीयते।। सुश्रुत सूत्र 15:48
This definition encompasses physical, mental and spiritual aspects of health. Health does not mean mere absence of disease but it means that mind and spirit should also be Prasanna (happy). Complete psycho-somatic equilibrium is the key to Svāsthya (health). This concept is in total alignment with the WHO’s definition of health.
