This year the Christmas project was a Brownie Sale. The children were given a basic recipe for eggless brownies. They worked in pairs and came up with some creative and inventive brownies. They were involved in the entire process from advertising their brownies through posters, budgeting and purchasing, baking, selling and account keeping. They had to bring out their planning and organising skills and use their mathematical skills. They were also introduced to the concept of profit and loss.
The children enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree and receiving gifts from Santa Claus!

The children were taken to The Farm, Semmenchery. They were excited to see the barn, coop and stable. They fed the hens, c***s, turkeys, goats, goat kids, cows, calves and horses. They also got an opportunity to touch and pet some of them. They walked along rice fields. They were shown how to mix compost and sand and prepare a bed for vegetable planting. They then did the same on their own. Each child weeded and prepared a garden bed and planted a few vegetable seeds. They also saw many varieties of vegetable and fruits in the organic vegetable garden. Each child milked a cow and saw how paneer and butter are made. Coconut tree climbing and broom making was demonstrated. They tried their hand at weaving the coconut leaf into thatch and enjoyed drinking the farm fresh tender coconut water. They made their own pizza for lunch, carefully choosing the toppings that they wanted. All in all a tiring yet energising outing for the children!

The Elementary Open Day was conducted on Nov 1, 2019. The elementary children enthusiastically
presented their projects to parents and visitors. Many of them also showed how they work with
Montessori materials. The children of the Primary Environment came with their teachers and
observed the projects eagerly. Parents and visitors were impressed with the variety of projects and
demonstrations and the confidence of the children. What stood out for them was the fact that the
projects were entirely planned and executed by the children during the school hours.
