A sustainable solution to combat malnutrition faced by vulnerable Sri Lankan Tamil children, studying in Government schools in Jaffna, by setting up organic ‘nutrition’ gardens on the school campus and teaching them to cultivate & harvest their own organic vegetables. These vegetables are handed over to the school kitchen, where it is cooked along with rice and lentils as part of the noon meal and served to the students on the school campus, thereby ensuring that they are nourished with a well-balanced meal. This initiative has also reduced school dropout rates, as the nutritious meal has become an incentive for vulnerable children to be sent to school.
