HOW MUCH EXERCISE IS SAFE?

I get this question often from clients and friends.

As per the American College of Sports Medicine, a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week is required along with 20 to 60 minutes of vigorous exercise per week (to prevent or reduce chances of onset of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease or other metabolic disorders).

This works out to 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days a week and one to three days of 20 minutes each, of vigorous exercise per week.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to stop criticising those who are sincerely working - out and go out and put in the effort to be healthy.

In other words, if you do not manage to get in 180 minutes of exercise per week, you are falling short of the ACSM fitness guidelines.

Those who have risk factors like hypertension and heart disease or family history, can get a medical clearance before participating in moderate or vigorous activity.
