It was a pleasure to listen to talk on AVM embolization by Dr Alberto Gil . He talked in detail about technical nuances in transvenous approach to challenging cerebral AVMs. All credit to him to make such detailed presentation. In my formative years in AIIMS, I was deeply involved in AVM embolization, and this challenging disease remains my passion !

We do Stroke neuro-intervention all the time, but I feel the answer is in prevention. The most important factor behind stroke is hypertension. We are seeing so many young patients with hypertension, presenting with large ICH or stroke with uncontrolled hypertension. Since we Indians are becoming so prone to this disease, it is better to catch it in the early at "prehypertension stage". Studies have shown that 1 in 3 adults in our country suffer from pre-hypertension so I think everyone should check their blood pressure regularly and try to take all the steps at this stage to control it. This is one of the articles published with our input.
What is prehypertension? Why one must learn to manage it? | - Times of India ICMR's NCDIR study reveals 1 in 3 Indian adults suffer prehypertension. Wealthier, overweight individuals at higher risk. Lifestyle changes crucial. R
This week, one of the pioneers in the research of Behavioral Economics, Professor Daniel Kahneman, died. I read his book "Thinking, Fast and Slow" many years back; it was tough to read but was amazing. It gave me insights into how there are different parts of our brain and how we make decisions. It showed me that even the intelligent, well-read among us are always biased, or at least most of the time biased, in decision-making. Even as doctors and physicians, I think we should read this book to understand our inner workings, how we make decisions, and how we can make ourselves much better. I've always personally encouraged the younger generation (including my son) to read this, in an attempt to become a somewhat smarter person, or at least not have the illusion of being a smart person.
Wish you and your loved ones a very happy Holi !
In recent times, our practice has noticed a troubling rise in stroke incidents among young individuals in India, signalling a significant gap in the management and awareness of stroke risk factors. Witnessing young people, at the height of their lives, suffer severe or lasting impairments due to strokes is deeply distressing. The case of Mr. Nithin Kamath, the CEO of Zerodha, who recently experienced a stroke, serves as a poignant reminder of this growing concern. In light of Brain Awareness Week, it is encouraging to note efforts aimed at enhancing brain health consciousness, particularly among the youth. The publication of actionable advice on stroke risk factors by the Times of India is a commendable step towards educating the public. This initiative not only broadens understanding but also stresses the importance of early prevention and care in safeguarding brain health.

In light of the recent news about the actor Mithun Chakraborty's brain stroke, it's become increasingly clear that there's a vital need for greater awareness about early stroke detection within our communities. Despite widespread knowledge, confusion persists in distinguishing between the symptoms of heart attacks and brain strokes. I am delighted to be interviewed by News Channel Aaj Tak to shine a light on this crucial issue.

In Gurgaon, the weather has been quite unpleasant for the last two months. Not only has it been foggy, but the high pollution levels and dust have also made the greenery appear consistently dirty. Today, however, there was a welcome change. After the rains, the sky cleared, the greenery sparkled, and I couldn’t help but capture photographs during my morning run. What a great change!

Spotify has released a "Your 2023 Wrapped" report, and going through my music listening patterns was quite interesting. Firstly, I realized I listened more than I had thought. Secondly, even though my top artists are Hindi, I did explore various genres and Western artists as well. Lastly, and most confusingly, I tend to favour darker, more emotionally atmospheric music, and they labelled my listening pattern as "Vampire"... Hmm, very confusing for me! 😜
We celebrated the birthday of my team coordinator Jaswant, he has been with us for 12 years and plays such a key role in helping patients with their issues. One of the pleasures of teamwork is the bonds you build up with all your team members over the years.
