how to plant kesar केसर Saffron सैफरन Zafran जाफरान jaafraan सैफ्रन Crocus sativus plants bear up to four flowers. Kesar threads/Stamens are three-pronged style that emerge from each saffron flower. Kesar flower stigma are hand harvested, dried and used as the spice saffron. Yield of Kesar is 1-1.5 kg/ Acre. Saffron recovery is around 30g/kg of fresh flowers. Corms and daughter corms are used as planting material. Graded corms weighing 8 gm and above are preferred for new plantation during Sep-Oct for kesar cultivation. Corms from Saffron plants which are left in the soil for two consecutive years. Saffron prefers cool, dry and sunny climate and grows in elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 m above sea level. Well drained sandy loam to clay loam soils is preferred
