The Aroha Senior Choir, Shillong
The name Aroha comes from the Sanskrit “Arohan” which means the ascending scale or to ascend. Th They come from diverse backgrounds and denominations.
The Aroha Choir comprises music lovers from Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland of Northeast India. In spite of busy schedules, their love for music and the pursuit of excellence in art and lifestyle has brought them together. Most are soloists in their own right and they share a passion for social service. Their music has touched and inspired many and they have a varied repertoire from indigenous folk music to jazz and classical.
Mang Kyrpang Kharshiing playing Frédéric Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu in C♯ minor, Op. posth. 66, WN 46 at the 4th Edition of the Brillante Piano Festival in Kohima 29th Sept to 1st Oct 2023
It was composed in 1834 and published posthumously in 1855 despite Chopin's instruction that none of his unpublished manuscripts be published.

I haven't been active on FB for a long time. Family commitments, iIl health and some challenges kept me from sharing music from the Aroha Choir. But now here is a teaser on a song I wrote a few years ago for a family that had just lost their beloved Mum.

THE POWER OF THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
Starting on Christmas Eve, many German and British troops fighting in World War I sang Christmas carols to each other across the lines, and at certain points the Allied soldiers even heard brass bands joining the Germans in their joyous singing.
SILENT NIGHT / STILLE NACHT was the Carol that brought soldiers together.

Yesterday as I left the church at Police Bazaar, a man stumbled across our path- dead drunk. As he lurched past us disheveled and incoherent I felt a deep sadness at his plight. He is representative of a lot of our men ( and some womenfolk). There is so much drug and alcohol abuse in our state . And this Christmas we will see a lot of this type of abuse even as we celebrate the memory of the birth of our Lord. REMINDER: The Aroha Choir was posting a Christmas Concert to help raise funds for DAVID JAMIR who runs a rehabilitation center called the WISDOM CENTRE in Ribhoi ,Umdihar for those with drug and alcohol addictions. David is no ordinary man. His quiet unassuming looks belie a heart of compassion and deep dedication for helping people overcome addictions. He has been running this Center for over 10 years. Many have been transformed by his care. But he really needs help. EVERY BIT COUNTS
Those of us who have had loved ones fall prey to these addictions will know the trauma, agony and pain the victim and his/her families have to go through. I would urge those of you who have enjoyed our music to please give generously to David's trust fund. (Government permission has been sought for this)

This morning's song "No more Night" written by Walter Harrah and sung by Venetia Warshong is dedicated to those whose have lost loved ones in the past. I am thinking of you all dear friends who have been devastated by the loss of somebody close to you and want to remind you of the hope that we have in Jesus. Death was conquered when He rose again. He was born for this very purpose. One day there will be no more night. I firmly believe this ! Let this be a Christmas of the celebration of this hope.
REMINDER: We are doing these concerts to raise funds for David Jamir who is running the "Wisdom Centre" a home for those addicted to drugs and alcohol. David is a man of unusual compassion and needs all the help he can get especially this Christmas. I will be sharing the bank account number tomorrow.
