The Second Wind

The Second Wind is a Gurugram based design studio focussed on interior design and boutique furniture.

We enjoy integrating old fashioned design style with modern sensibilities. While growing up, summers holidays were strictly reserved for lazy mornings, Enid Blyton-esque discoveries in the garden and food coma. At the beginning of the holidays, we were promptly deported to our grandmother’s home where all this was in abundance. But what was more fascinating than the lure of indolence is how every

Re-imagine and Re-create.
One of our core beliefs is to find ways of using what we already have to create the things we need !

We are eager to learn about your 'reimagine' and 'recreate' story.
Let us know how you thought to change something and brought it to reality.

When was the last time you reused something that made you happy? Let us know in the comment section below and we'll feature you in our story.

Crafting a bohemian style occasional table out of bits and scraps from different sources.

This is one of our favourite upcycle projects from the past — it's pure joy to see the finished product of something that began as a whim in your head!

This is what we mean by reimagining an old piece of furniture.
Can you guess what this baby bed that we made for Ravina Photography was pre-transformation?

These reclaimed wood shelves remind us of the best-out-of-waste projects we did as kids in school.

Choosing paint colours is the most fun part of the process for us.
What is yours? :)

Tires that have been discarded are a great resource for home decor.
With a few finishing touches, they can change from contemporary to ethnic, industrial to shabby chic, indoor to outdoor, swing to pouffe.
We created seating out of our old car tyres, one is a simple D.I.Y. version with jute ropes wrapped around it. The other one is more like a pouffe with cushioned seats which can be customised with any fabric of your choice.

DM us to get your upcycled tyre pouffe home :)

Every day, India discards thousands of tyres without having a thorough plan in place to dispose of them. Furthermore, India buys millions of waste tyres from other nations for use in the pyrolysis sector.
Tyres are not biodegradable, and decomposition can take up to 100 years or more. They are either burned to make cheap fuel or dumped in landfills to decompose, both of which are extremely harmful to the environment. Decomposition of tyres/rubber results in the release of toxic gases, which harms our health and messes up the sanitization of the area where they are discarded. To rescue us and our planet from the detrimental consequences of tyres, they must be repurposed whenever and wherever possible.

Discarded car tyres upcycled into garden seating for
In the spirit of upcycling, we wanted to create this seating with minimum use of new resources.
So we decided to skip the enamel paint and instead went with bare tires look.
For the seating, we sourced some ropes from a local market that are made out of waste plastic wrappers that get discarded from the packaging quality check for varied reasons.
We love the juxtaposition of these upcycled multicoloured ropes against the black tires. Do you?

DM us if you'd like to get one custom-designed for your space.

Why you should think twice before you do away with an old piece of furniture, just because it looks dated or no longer matches your decor.
when it comes to wooden furniture.
See how we refreshed an old Sheesham stool from a jaded brown to a cheery red.
The bold pop of red is a fun contrast to the otherwise traditional look of this furniture.

You may not be able to go full zero waste owing to our current lifestyle, But we can sure start with the little things.
Here are a few things that seem daunting but are actually fun once you get a hang of it -
your kitchen waste
your dry waste
your old clothes/furniture
things rather than throwing them out

Start small, start with what interests you- it is an engaging process the more you do the small things the easier some of the bigger changes seem.

There are always two sides when it comes to painting on wood.
One that looks down on it and rightfully so, for their argument that natural grains are the most beautiful work of art and should at no cost be hidden underneath layers of paint.
And the others who find colours immensely therapeutic and the moment they get bored of looking at an old piece of furniture, they can't wait to reimagine them in colours.
I am still on the fence to which side I belong, I love natural finishes and I love painted furniture too. What I do believe is to not follow trends but your heart!

For this Sheesham trunk, we decided to marry our love for natural wood grains with colour. My client and I were so sure of the direction we wanted to take with this one, thankfully it was the same one :)
Thank you, for always being patient and trusting my process ( I can be a scatterbrain sometimes :)

Get in touch if you are hoarding old trunks and don't know how to use bring them out.

One of our absolute favourite makeovers!

I repainted an old table for my nephew - the one that was shared by Arnie's Dad and Bua as kids and then once they moved out Dadi used it in the kitchen as a chopping station :)
It is still sturdy enough after all these years and a few repairs and paint coats later it's all new and shiny for the new master!

Sharing things with siblings came with its own challenges but there's an inherent joy in those memories. We wish to pass down these simple joys of the past to our next generation. We hope they love their history as much as they embrace the future.

thank you for the picture
