The Foundation Of The Great Mughal Empire Of India Was Laid By Babur In 1526. Almost 350 Years Later, The Last Mughal Ruler, Bahadur Shah Zafar Had The Misfortune To Be Caught Up In The Events Of 1857, The Rumblings Of Which Had Started In Places Like Behrampore, Barrackpore, Lucknow And Elsewhere, But The Official Date Has Been Accepted As May 10, 1857.
A Titular Emperor, An Established Poet And Sufi "Saint", He Lived To See Palace Intrigues Against Himself, His Sons Being Killed In Cold Blood By Major Hodson (Who Himself Met An Ignominious End At Lucknow, But That Story Will Be Told Some Other Time), A British "Trial" Which Branded Him As A Leader Of The Freedom Fighters, And His Eventual Exile To A Foreign Land, Where He Died And Was Hurriedly Buried In An Unmarked Grave Near Rangoon (Modern Day Yangon).
