“Happy Holi! 🌈 Let’s Celebrate with Colors and Creativity!”

There are several ways to build your child’s finemotor skills with common items found at home. Clothes pins/ pegs are an excellent tool to build finger muscles. Just invite your toddler to peg them onto the lip of a bucket/ mug and then take them all off again.

This can be introduced at age 3 depending on how flexible the pins are. Wooden pegs are very safe but regular pins works great when parents are around.

This image beautifully sums up why early educators emphasize on development of fine motor skills. What better way than through art! Art imparts a plethora of avenues for fine motor and muscle development and is indispensible in early learning.

Here’s a look at the Fine motor skills milestones for children from 0 to 5 years. This is a broad outline of skills not indicative of the exact milestones that children hit at specific ages. Not all children will hit the milestones at the specified periods but this gives you a good indicator.

Have you ever wondered why pre schools/ kindergartens focus so much on art and craft?

When kids use their fingers to manipulate art materials they are developing their fine motors skills as they use those small muscles in their hands. Their bilateral coordination skills improve as they learn to use both hands at the same time.
All this happens when they paint, colour, glue and cut. The quicker their fine motors skills develop the more they can do on their own, from eating by themselves to tying their own shoelaces or even writing. Hence most curriculums attach so much weightage to these activities.

👨‍🎨🎨Henri Rousseau was an artist who grew up in the era of the French Impressionists. Henri Rousseau lacked those artists’ formal training. He only began to paint in 1884, at age 40. For most of his adult life, he worked as a clerk. Yet it is rumored that the undemanding nature of Rousseau’s job is precisely what gave him the time to teach himself painting; when he wasn’t moving paper, he made trips to the Louvre to sketch from its collection. By the end of his life, he was exhibiting alongside van Gogh and Paul Gauguin; Henri Matisse and André Derain—and his work was collected by Pablo Picasso. 🎨👨‍🎨
