Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today emailed his resignation letter to the Parliament Speaker. Sri Lankan Speaker's office said, the Speaker has received President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation letter.
The embattled President had fled to the Maldives earlier this week and on Thursday took a Airlines plane to .
The Singapore Government issued a statement on Gotabaya Rajapaksa landing at the Changi Airport, stating that the Sri Lankan President was granted permission to enter the city-state on a private visit.
According to an official declaration from Singapore's Foreign Ministry, Mr Rajapaksa has not asked for asylum and neither has he been granted any asylum.
Mr Rajapaksa went into hiding after demonstrators stormed his home on 9th of July. Mr Rajapaksa and his wife later fled to the . Before leaving , he had assured leaders that he would send in his resignation.
Soon after, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed as Sri Lanka's interim President. Mr Wickremesinghe directed the military to do whatever is necessary to restore order after protesters stormed his office.
Meanwhile, people have been staging nationwide protests demanding the resignation of both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickramasinghe. Sri Lanka has been suffering from its worst economic crisis in decades.
:
Rather than take steps to calm the growing public resentment over the catastrophic economic and political crisis that Srilanka find itself in, its rulers appear hell- bent upon exacerbating it by displaying their callous attitude to the sufferings of their own citizens.
The resignation of Gotbaya Rajpaksa from the post of country's who now fled the nation and the appointment of Ranil Wikremasinghe as the president could hardly cool down the tempers of agitating masses.
Clamping emergency to quell popular protests by Ranil Wikremasinghe upon becoming the president will only further the fuel of fire of unrest.
It is time Ranil Wikremasinghe quit the presidency and pave the way for peace on the ground.
Moreover, at this critical juncture, parties across the political spectrum rise above their partisan interests and join together to form a unity government and help the country tide over its unprecedented economic crisis
Boris Johnson announced today that he would quit as British prime minister. The scandal hit leader was left isolated as more than 40 ministers and aides, including three cabinet members, have quit the government since late Tuesday demanding his resignation.
The Conservative leader was confronted at various points by members of his cabinet telling him it was time to go. Bowing to the pressure, Mr Johnson announced outside Downing Street to quit as Conservative leader but said he will continue to serve as Prime Minister until the party chooses his successor.
Mr Johnson said, it is clearly now the will of Conservative MPs that there should be a new leader. He said the process of choosing new leader should begin now. In a tweet, deputy chairman of the Conservative Party Justin Tomlinson said that Johnson's resignation was inevitable.
Labour party said Johnson cannot stay on as PM, otherwise they will try to bring a no confidence vote in Parliament.
Boris Johnson's political carrier : He was the mayor who basked in the glory of hosting the 2012 London Olympics, and the man who led the Conservatives to a thumping election victory on the back of his promise to “get Brexit done.”
But Boris Johnson's time as prime minister was marred by his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and a steady stream of ethics allegations, from alcohol-fueled government parties that broke lockdown rules to how he handled a sexual misconduct scandal involving a senior party lawmaker.

RPF head constable Kamlesh Kumar Dubey's heroic act saved the life of an elderly woman. She and her companion were trying to cross the railway tracks. While one succeeded in climbing onto the platform, the other was pulled up by Dubey seconds before a train passed the station.
Recalling the incident, Dubey told TOI: "I rushed to the edge of the platform and used all my strength to pull her up. She was saved by a fraction of a second. During the act, my training of RFP helped me to maintain stability on the platform while the speeding express train passes and I managed to hold the woman."

Breathing is life. Let us promise to keep our surroundings free from toxins. Let us together " close the gaps in asthma care"
Be aware about Asthma and its causes.
Once you learn, educate others. This World Asthma Day spread awareness and not charcoal smoke. Choose incense which is pleasant to your nose as well as your lungs. Every breath is a gift. And gifts should be wrapped in flowers, not dust.
World Asthma Day is an annual awareness event supported by Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and US based National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLB), and also the World Asthma Foundation. As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), about one person among 15 people in the world are suffering from asthma. These include patients from every age group.
Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. Asthma can be controlled by taking medicine and avoiding the triggers that can cause an attack.
The aim of the day is raising awareness of asthma and how it affects sufferers. The day falls on the first Tuesday in May each year and aims to raise support for sufferers and their families.
Every individual diagnosed with asthma needs to undergo medical treatment as well as physiotherapy for better recovery and to reduce the symptoms caused due to asthma. Pulmonary Rehabilitation helps you to breath better, reduces chest tightness & shortness of breath, improves strength of muscles and helps you to do daily activities more effeciently.

Every year World liver day is observed on 19 April, with the goal to spread awareness about liver-related diseases.
The liver is the second largest internal organ in the body after the brain, with over 500 different functions, including: digestion, metabolism, removal of toxins, and nutrient storage.
The liver plays the most important role in the digestive system of your body.
Everything you eat or drink, including medicine, passes through the liver. You cannot survive without a liver. This is an organ that is easily damaged if you do not take good care of it.
19 th April : World Liver Day!!!
Frequent consumption of alcohol gives you excess calories.
These calories make you obese.
Obesity is majorly responsible for fatty liver disease (which is medically known as FLD). In this case, unhealthy amounts of fatty acids get accumulated in the liver and disrupt the liver function. If our liver is unhealthy, it inhibits the body to work properly, effectively digest food, and clear toxins from our body. If it is not cared properly, the person may even die.
You must know that 1 out of 4 people suffers from liver diseases? It’s estimated that 7,00,000 people die of liver diseases every year.
Liver disorders can be caused by alcoholism, hepatitis, fatty liver, and viral infections, among others. Here are symptoms to look out for:
1. Jaundice (indicated by yellow coloring of the skin and/or yellow coloring of urine and stool)
2. Bloody diarrhea
3. Fatigue
4. Body pain
The good news is, we can reverse this condition, yes. And before this turns serious, we can cure it. If you are obese, get your liver checked today.
With over 500 vital functions to perform, the liver is one of our most important organs, and its proper functioning is key to leading a happy and healthy life.
Tips to keep your liver healthy:
1. Eat a balanced diet
2. Maintain a healthy weight
3. Drink plenty of fluids and minimize intake of alcohol
4. Exercise regularly
5. Maintain a rigid hygiene regime
The liver is capable of regenerating itself. However, some liver cells die each time the liver filters substances like alcohol.
Prolonged damage will reduce its ability to regenerate, causing serious and permanent damage.
The choice is yours.
On this Liver Day, let's take a pledge to love our liver and take care of this special organ! Regular exercise, eating a well balanced diet and avoiding toxins that can potentially injure liver cells are all required to love your liver, and live longer!
👍🏻👍🏻🇮🇳👍🏻👍🏻

The history of the Indian Independence movement will always be incomplete without the mention of the "Jallianwala Bagh massacre." On April 13,1919, British troops led by General Dyer fired and massacred a large crowd of unarmed Indians who were staging a peaceful movement for an independent India.
This turned out to be a turning point in the Indian freedom movement, resulting in the full commitment by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to the cause of Indian nationalism and the complete removal of British forces from our country.
🔴 A 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙚 to Jallianwala Bagh 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙮𝙧𝙨.
🎉 Horrific 𝙅𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙜𝙝 massacre epitomizes the brutality & oppressive nature of British imperialism. When we observe 103 years of the 𝙅𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙜𝙝 massacre today, a grateful nation pays tribute to all those martyrs. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
🔴 The 𝙅𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙜𝙝 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙚, also known as the 𝘼𝙢𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙖𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙚, took place on 13 April 1919, when Acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered troops of the British Indian Army to fire their rifles into a crowd of unarmed Indian civilians in 𝙅𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙜𝙝, 𝘼𝙢𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙖𝙧, Punjab, killing at least 400 people including men and women. Over 1,000 people were injured.
🔴 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 - M. K. 𝙂𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙝𝙞 launched the with determination and Ravindranath Tagore returned his knighthood, saying, “Such mass murderers aren’t worthy of giving any title to anyone." Winston Churchill called Dyer’s act “monstrous" in Jallianwala
Glimpses of Baisakhi Massacre
March 10, 1919 -
The Black Act (Rowlatt Act) was passed, authorizing the government to imprison or confine, any person associated with seditious activities without a trial.
This led to nationwide unrest.
Mahatma Gandhi initiated Satyagraha to protest against this black Rowlatt Act.
April 7, 1919 -
Mahatma Gandhi published an article called Satyagrahi, describing ways to oppose the black Act. The british authorities discussed amongst themselves the actions to be taken against Gandhi and any other leaders who were participating in the Satyagraha.
Orders were issued to prohibit Gandhi from entering Punjab and to arrest him if he disobeyed the orders.
Michael O’ Dwyer, the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab (1912-1919), suggested that Gandhi be deported to Burma but this was opposed by his fellow officials as they felt it might instigate the public. Dr Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr Satyapal, the two prominent leaders who were a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity, organised a peaceful protest against the Rowlatt Act in Amritsar.
April 9, 1919-
Ram Naumi was being celebrated when O’ Dwyer issued orders to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Irving to arrest Dr Satyapal and Dr Kitchlew.
April 10, 1919-
Mr Irving knew that arrest of both leasers would lead to a people outburst. He also knew that none of them favoured violence. He invited both to his house on the morning (of April 10). Both leaders unsuspectingly responded to the call and went to Irving house. After half an hour as his guests, both were caught hold of, and removed towards Dharmasala under police es**rt.
The infuriated protestors marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s (Irving) residence to demand the release of their two leaders. Here they were fired upon without any provocation. Many people were wounded and killed. The protestors retaliated with lathis and stones and attacked any European who came in their way.
APRIL 13, 1919 – Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
After passing the black Rowlatt Act, the Punjab Government set out to suppress all opposition.
The public had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh to celebrate Baisakhi on April 13. Two resolutions were discussed, one condemning the firing on April 10 and the other requesting the authorities to release their leaders. Some historian believed that it was a political gathering.
When the news reached to Dyer, he headed to the Bagh with his troops.
He surrounded the protesters with his Gurkha British Indian army units. The Jallianwala Bagh could only be exited on one side, as its other three sides were enclosed by buildings. After blocking the exit with his troops,
Dyer ordered troops to open fire without giving any warning. People rushed to the exits but Dyer directed his soldiers to fire at the exit too. The firing continued for 10-15 minutes. 1650 rounds were fired. The firing ceased only after the ammunition had ran out.
The total estimated figure of the dead as given by General Dyer and Mr Irving was 291. However, other reports put the figure of dead between 379-1500.
As the news of the massacre spread across the nation, two days after the massacre, Martial Law was clamped down on five districts - Lahore, Amritsar, Gujranwala, Gujarat and Lyallpore. It was done to empower the Viceroy to direct immediate trial by court-martial of any person involved in the revolutionary activities.
Later Hunter Commission (appointed by britishers to probe the massacre) termed this as, one of the darkest episodes of the british rule.
After 21 Years
On 13 March 1940, Udham Singh, an Indian revolutionary, shot Michael O’Dwyer dead who was the Lt. Governor of Punjab at the time of the Jalliawala Bagh massacre.
Remembering one and all of Jallianwala Bagh (known or unknown) and Sardar Udham Singh on this Baisakhi!
