Exciting news for sustainable businesses! 🌍🌱 The European Union is taking a significant step towards combating climate change with a new legislation. A recent article on Euractiv reveals that EU companies will soon be required to provide evidence of the carbon neutrality of their food products.

This landmark law aims to create greater transparency and accountability within the food industry, urging businesses to prioritize environmentally friendly practices. By obligating companies to demonstrate their products' carbon neutrality, the EU is fostering a culture of sustainability and empowering consumers to make informed choices.

The move towards carbon neutrality aligns with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change. It not only benefits the environment but also promotes responsible production and consumption, which are vital for a sustainable future.

For companies already operating with sustainability in mind, this legislation serves as validation and recognition for their efforts. It reinforces their commitment to combatting climate change and allows them to showcase their eco-friendly practices to a broader audience.

At the same time, this legislation presents an opportunity for businesses to assess their carbon footprint and explore innovative solutions to minimize it. Adopting sustainable practices and investing in renewable energy sources will not only help them comply with the new law but also drive positive change within their respective industries.

We are pleased to invite you to the "B Corps, sustainable business models, and firm strategies for meeting the net-zero goals" symposium at the EURAM (EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT) 2023 conference at Trinity College Dublin Global, composed entirely of members of the Tracy project.

The path toward decarbonization is complex, and not only involves companies, but is also influenced by the national, social, and political context. This Symposium will discuss the role and business model of B Corps and other forms of sustainability-driven organizations in the achievement of net-zero goals. While there is a growing debate concerning both carbon neutrality and companies' environmental impact, those two topics have been approached quite independently. Hence, the Symposium is intended to discuss the advantages of blending these two research streams, disentangling the factors (e.g., institutional, industry, and firms) leading firms to meet the net-zero goal.

We will have as symposium panelists:
Daniel Alonso Martínez, Universidad de León, Spain
Silvia Blasi, Università degli Studi di Verona, Italy
Eleonora Di Maria, DSEA - Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche e Aziendali Unipd, Italy
Silvia Rita Sedita, DSEA - Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche e Aziendali Unipd, Italy

We look forward to welcoming you!

One of our favorites B Corps has some great news! A faster way to enjoy delicious and sustainable food is on the way.

Miscusi new fast-casual project in Milan is a hybrid model that combines the speed and technology typical of fast food with the product, healthy pasta from regenerative agriculture with low CO2 emissions, which has made the brand a reference point for lovers of the genre in recent years, with an offer of dishes adapted to different eating habits and intolerances.

The new restaurant retains all the brand's iconic features, such as the open pasta factory where fresh bronze-drawn pasta is produced daily. But it introduces a quick ordering mode. Three large touch screens allow you to order and pay directly for the type of pasta and sauce you want, then pick up your lunch (also to take away, with a paper plate and cellulose fork to avoid plastic, abandoned in this chain for years) after a 7-10 minute wait. A QR code can also be used in the shop window to order, pay and collect, eating on the spot or in the office.

What do you think about this initiative?

NetZeroCities is part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program supporting the European Union’s Green Deal. NetZeroCities was designed to help cities overcome the current structural, institutional, and cultural barriers they face to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

NetZeroCities supports the EU’s Mission of “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030,” launched as part of the Horizon Europe program. The project works as a service-oriented platform supported by world-class practitioners. It helps European cities by providing them with the solutions they need to achieve their Net Zero goal in a socially inclusive way.

New and existing tools, resources, and expertise are developed and promoted into a one-stop platform accessible to all cities through an online portal. Dedicated services are designed to support cities that are part of the EU’s Mission “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030”. In addition, NetZeroCities supports a series of Pilots to help drive rapid learning about achieving climate neutrality at the city scale.

Let's recap the main speakers of the event " B for Benefit and B-Corp: when Common Benefit is the Purpose of the Enterprise" and some of their ideas that collaborate with the views of B-corps.
Accordingly to Gianni Dal Pozzo, society 5.0 will have to replace the competition between man and machine with their collaboration. Ethical values and hyperconnectivity outline a new model of the regenerative economy to replace the "extractive" one that, to maximize profits, continues to consume already scarce resources. The goal is the quality of life for us all, so the intellectual effort we should exert as protagonists is to make digital and humanism collaborate.

Padua has signed the protocol among 100 cities to become carbon neutral by 2030.

The memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility and the Italian cities included in the Europe Commission's Mission "100 climate neutral and smart European cities by 2030″.

For Padua and the other cities - Bergamo, Bologna, Florence, Milan, Parma, Prato, Rome and Turin - the decarbonization and energy transition pathway kicks off, which should lead the cities chosen for this trial to be neutral from a greenhouse gas emissions point of view in 2030, anticipating what is the European Union's more general goal already set for 2050.

Padua is one of nine Italian cities involved. In the coming years, the city will become a center of climate experimentation and innovation. A virtuous example for all other European cities.
