President Kiir arrives in Kampala to attend NAM and G77+China Summits
KAMPALA, 17th January 2024--- President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday arrived in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, to attend the summits of Non-Aligned Movement, G77+China and IGAD Heads of State meeting.
The President was received by the Ugandan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in-charge of Regional Cooperation, John Mulimba, and South Sudan's Ambassador to Uganda Simon Juach and embassy officials.
On the sidelines of the Summits, President Kiir will also hold discussions on strengthening ties between South Sudan and other countries.

PRESIDENT KIIR OFFICIATES SWEARING-IN CEREMONY OF NEW DEFENSE MINISTER
JUBA,30th MARCH 2023- President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday presided over the swearing in ceremony of General Chol Thon Balok as the new appointed Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs.
In his remarks during the oath taking, President Kiir directed the new minister to reorganize the army and disarm the civil population in Juba and other parts of the country.
The President also urged the minister to carry out his duties diligently in order to implement chapter two of the security arrangement.
The new Defense Minister, Gen. Chol Thon Balok reiterated his commitment to implement Security Arrangement in order to achieve a durable peace in the country.
The Minister said he will work jointly with the senior members to reorganize the army especially addressing their welfare.
The Ceremony was administered in the office of the President by Chief Justice Chan Reech Madut.
JUBA, 27th March 2023- President Salva Kiir Mayardit opened the Transitional National Legislative Assembly after a short recess.
The session was opened under the theme: "Implementing the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) through the Roadmap"

PRESIDENT KIIR RECEIVES BRIEFING ON PEACE DISSEMINATION TOUR BY GOVERNOR ADIL
JUBA 08/03/2023- President Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday received briefing from the peace dissemination tour that was spearheaded by Governor of Central Equatoria State, Hon. Emmanuel Adil Anthony, across the State.
Hon. Adil asserted that his administration's has embarked on robust peace campaign to disseminate the message of peace to the communities as well as the Government’s plans to reinforce on the immediate return of the cattle herders into their places of origin as per the Presidential executive Orders.
The Governor also stated that the ongoing road networks expansion has enhanced road connectivity from Juba City to other major Towns across the Country.
President Kiir applauded the Governor's initiative on peace dissemination and calls for harmony within the communities of Central Equatoria State especially the Bari Community following the recent standoff.

President Kiir welcomes Al-Burhan to South Sudan
JUBA, 19th Febuary 2023- President Salva Kiir Mayardit receives his Sudanese Counterpart H.E Abdel Fattah al Burhan, the Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council at Juba International Airport.
The two leaders are expected to witness the signing of the implementation matrix of Juba Peace Agreement.

JUBA, 15th February 2023- President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday met with women leaders after the conclusion of the International Transformational Women’s Leadership Conference in Juba.
The three-day conference which brought together over 400 women across the country and within the region as well as outside World, aims to foster gender equality, and women empowerment in South Sudan.
The Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster, Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior said the forum has created an opportunity for women to exchange their knowledge on challenges facing women in the Continent and also urged women leaders to be Ambassadors of peace for South Sudan.
The Former President of Mauritius, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim said the inclusion of women in leadership and governance will foster development in the World youngest nation adding that they will be good ambassadors of South Sudan to other countries.
The Former President of Central Africa Republic, Catherine Samba Panza lauded the Vice President Nyandeng for inviting her to the conference noting that they will stand in solidarity with the women of South Sudan and urged them to be resilient.
The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Sara Beysolow Nyanti said she is privileged to be of the forum and urged the youth and Women to be the voice for change in the South Sudan.
Lastly, Hon. Dorothy Gwajima, Minister of Community Development, Gender and Women, From the United Republic of Tanzania added that she will hold a zoom meeting with the women of Tanzania to share the importance of “GuwataMara," translated to Strength of Women.

H:E Vice President Gen. Taban Deng G*i visited Embassy of Türkiye this morning and signed condolence book. He also handed over his personal condolence message to H:E Amb. Erdem Mutaf, Turkey's Ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan.
H:E Vice President was received by Amb. Erdem Mutaf among other senior diplomats of the Embassy of Türkiye.

President Kiir urges citizens to maintain peace during the Ecumenical visit.
JUBA, 29th January 2023- President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appealed to all the South Sudanese to maintain peace and order during the Ecumenical visit.
Speaking during a Sunday Mass at St. Theresa Cathedral in Kator, President Kiir urged all the faithfuls to turn out in large numbers to receive the Holy Father.
Pope Francis is expected to arrive in Juba on February 3rd alongside two eminent religious leaders, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Rt Rev Dr. Iain Greenshields.
Also present at the Church were; Vice President for Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga, Minister of Enviroment, Josephine Napwon and other top government officials.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit tours the facilities in preparation for the Ecumenical Peace Pilgrimage of Holy Father.
JUBA, 28th January 2023. In an inspection around the capital Juba, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, joined by first vice president Riek Machar Teny and vice president for services cluster Hussain Abdel Bagi Akol, and other senior government officials, oversaw the preparation for the Ecumenical Peace pilgrimage by Holy Father Pope Francis.
Speaking during the launching of H.H. Pope Francis Road, President Salva Kiir Mayardit noted the road was named after the Holy Father as a gift by South Sudanese to Pope Francis.
In addition, the senior presidential advisor on National Security, Hon. Tut Gatluak said that South Sudanese should open their hearts and receive the blessings of peace and reconciliation that comes with Popal's visit.
Lastly, minister of Presidential Affairs Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, who is also the Chairperson of the High level committee, added that the president has lifted the restriction on Rome peace talk with hold out group of Thomas Cirilo, Pagan Amum and Paul Malong. Dr. Baranaba Marial also stated that President Salva Kiir declared Friday as a public holiday for the citizens to attend the prayers at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum.
Pope Francis is expected to arrive in Juba on 3rd February, in accompaniment of The Bishop of Canterbury and the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
President Kiir assents four Bills into law
JUBA, 21st DECEMBER 2022, (Office of the President) - President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday signed four bills into law which were passed by the Transitional National Legislative Assembly and were forwarded to the President for assenting into law as required by the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan.
The four Bills includes;
|. The constitution Making Process Act 2022,
||. The Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan 2011 (Amendment) No.11 Act, 2022.
|||. The National Police Service, (Amendment) Act 2022.
||||. The National Wildlife Service, (Amendment) Act 2022.
Speaking to the Press, the Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly, Right Honorable, Jemma Nunu Kumba said these laws are related to the implementation process of the peace agreement, adding that other new acts have been submitted to the President and will be assented in the course of this week.
The Speaker further revealed that the Parliament has also submitted before the President five new Bills on security, Anti- Corruption, Referendum, Public Finance, and Accountability respectively.
The Speaker also said that Parliament has rectified five Conventions, and International Treaties on economic and political act.
They Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the rights of women in Africa, International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights as well as International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ICCPR.
Others include the Paris Agreement and the International Covenant on the rights of persons with disabilities, 2006.
President Kiir closes the 8th SSPDF Command Council
JUBA, 15 December 2022(Office of the President)-President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday closed the 8th Command Council Conference of the South Sudan people’s Defence Force (SSPDF) held under the theme, SSPDF building trust, understanding and Implementing the transitional Security Arrangement.
The Command Council deliberated on the progress of the implementation of the security arrangement.
In his keynote address, President Kiir urged the organized forces to execute their orders including the encouragement of positive international investment in the country.
“Let us all avoid going back to war, we are citizens of this country, all of us have a right to live, so let us avoid senseless war. You must stop war since war is destructive but peace brings foreign investors to invest in the country”. The President shared that war and conflict must be avoided, and that fighting one another is meaningless and will halt any chances of development and disrupt the progress that we have made as a nation.
“We need development, we need schools, hospitals and roads.” President Kiir reiterated.
The President also called on those who have taken arms to come back and dialogue with the Government to resolve their grievances.
“To some of our brothers who are still in the bush, come back home and join the Government so that we can bring a sustainable peace in our country. I urge you to put down your guns and resume dialogue on peace”
The President of the Republic reminded the attendees that the agreement on the extension of the Roadmap for an additional 24 months was reached "so that we can accomplish outstanding tasks in the implementation of the peace agreement. We do not want people to descend into war during elections.”
He added that the work that has begun on making connections on major roads such as Juba-Bor, Bor-Ayod, Akobo, and now Terkeka-Rumbek are great signs of the development and accessibility.
“We are about to open Juba-Bor road and we are going to launch the road construction of Bor to Ayod, Akobo respectively. All these areas of South Sudan, we need to connect them with good roads.”
The Minister of National Security, Gen. Obote Mamur urged the army to shun dirty politics and embrace the spirt of nationalism.
“You are not an army of individuals; you are an army of the Republic of South Sudan and a symbol of our flag. And as an army, we need your protection to defend our sovereign territory, and to protect our President and the people of South Sudan” Obote Mamur noted.
President Kiir promised to review the resolutions and recommendations made by the command council before approval and consideration.
South Sudan and Kenya have renewed trade policy for a stronger region.
In brief:
-Kenya will facilitate cost effective movement of goods from the port of Mombasa to South Sudan.
-President William Ruto said South Sudan traders can choose to clear their goods from the port of Mombasa, Nairobi or Naivasha.
-The President was speaking in Juba after a bilateral meeting with President Salva Kiir at his office on Saturday.
-Traders from South Sudan can choose the most convenient point to pick their goods with no restrictions.
-Kenya would provide land to South Sudan in Mombasa to build a dry port to ease the cost of doing business between citizens of the two nations.
-President Kiir thanked Dr Ruto for removing restrictions that made it difficult for traders from South Sudan to clear their goods.
"On behalf of the people of South Sudan we are grateful to Kenya for allowing our traders to choose where to clear their goods without any restrictions," said President Kiir.
-President Ruto was on a one-day official visit to South Sudan. He was accompanied by Roads and infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen among others.
-The First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar was present at the press briefing.

The Governace Cluster chaired by the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon on Tuesday in its regular meeting number 04/2022 directed the Ministries of; Water resources and Irrigation, of Environment and Forestry and for presidential affairs to brief the Council of Ministers this week on the concern and confusion surrounding the dredging of rivers caused by the arrival of the recent equipment that were received by Unity State government which has sparked controversy on social media and public discussions.
In a statement to the media after the meeting, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hon. Dr. Martin Ellia Lomuro said the cluster recommended that the concerned ministeries should brief the Cabinet to address the issues that are raised by the plan to dredge rivers to put an end to unnecessary allegations being speculated on social media.
Minister Martin Ellia said the Cluster also listened to two presentation reports from the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ruben Madol Arol on the establishment of South Sudan Judicial Reform Committee to be formed by IGAD that shall nominate the chair and Deputy as experts from the region and comprised of members to be nominated by the parties to the agreement.
Dr. Martin Ellia added that the Cluster also listened to a report on the ratification of agreement establishing joint commission for bilateral cooperation between the government of South Sudan and the government of the State of Kuwait.
The cooperation agreement allows top officials from the two countries to uphold consultations and coordinate matters of political interests for both Countries and also to develop and follow up economic interests including economy, investment, commerce as well as promotion of Culture, science and technology.
Minister Martin Ellia said the Cluster passed the reports for further discussions in the next Council of Ministers sitting.

Wednesday, November 16th, 2022 - the Chairperson of South Sudan HIV & Aids Commission Dr. Esterina Novello briefed the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon on the Commission's activities and their preparations to commemorate this year's World Aids Day under the global theme "Equalise".
Dr. Novello says the global theme aims to rally everyone to join hands in the fight against the prevalence of HIV around the world.
Dr. Esterina Novello said the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar will lead this year's commemorations set to take on the 1st of December 2022.
