Studying Film at The American University of Rome
At the end of the Spring semester, AUR graduating Film students had the remarkable opportunity to debut their final capstone projects at The Space Cinema Moderno at Piazza della Repubblica in the heart of Rome.
This was an incredible end to an amazing journey for these aspiring filmmakers - debuting their creations on the big screen to a packed house of friends, family, and fellow students while demonstrating the depth of learning & skills they have developed over their time at AUR... almost reads like a script for a movie in its own right!
Congratulations to everyone involved—we can’t wait to see your future movies on big screens worldwide!

We often say, ‘Rome is our classroom,’ and it really is. So many of our regular classes use the city as an extension for classroom learning. But, to complete the phrase coined by one of AUR’s co-founders, ‘Rome is our classroom, Europe is our laboratory, the World is our potential.” Nothing more clearly demonstrates this motto than AUR’s dedication to experiential field trips. Learning through travel and hands-on experience is something that few other universities can so readily manage. After dedicated service for over 24 years, Professor Kathleen Fitzsimmons stepped back from classroom teaching in May 2022 - if you’re an alumnus, you’ll know that she’s still very much a part of the community and working on your behalf! One of AUR’s best-loved and most active professors, Fitzsimmons epitomizes AUR’s core values of teamwork & leadership and has been a role model and inspiration throughout her time in the classroom. We were delighted recently to welcome back AUR alum Simone Amorico. Simone graduated from AUR in 2004 and is now the CEO of “Access Italy,” a top luxury tourism company in Italy with clientele that has included Oprah and the Obamas. Simone agreed to sit for a short video interview with our resident videographer, Maria. Today, we randomly pulled a number out of the electronic hat - and it came up ... 14!
Congratulations Brooke H. (an alumna from 2009). We loved the photo and the caption - a really worthy winner!
