Another for the Max Planck Society! Congratulations to Dr. Svante Pääbo, Director at The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology for this prestigious achievement. This brings the total number of Nobel Laureates in the Max Planck Society to 30, including five in the last three years alone!
Paleogeneticist Svante Pääbo and his team sequenced a Neanderthal genome for the first time in 2010, and the genome of a Denisovan in 2015. Pääbo has won this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution."

Researchers found that, upon exposure to the metal, the bacterium removes it from the cell by secreting bismuth-enriched membrane vesicles. The results highlight a strategy through which H. pylori defends against bismuth toxicity. As such, adding inhibitors of membrane vesicle formation could improve bismuth-based therapy.
