This is a small study of a monkey’s head for a commission I am working on. It will be a small portion of the whole scene that i am creating. I need to see if the colours work together and give the piece the right atmosphere that I try to achieve. Probably soon you will get more updates about this project. But for now that’s it. See u soon. Oil on gessoed paper 2023.

Portrait of a female moor (2021). Studying many decades of art history you come along many “isms”. Orientalism was one of those that fascinated me the most. It was a fascinating topic for many artist, discovering other cultures and show them thru the lens of an artist. Orientalism shows the impact that the arabic and african culture had in Europe, when big parts of the old continent were dominated by them for centuries, leaving their architectural and religious influence. I painted this little alla prima portrait partially with the palette knife. Go and check out my link in the bio to visit my website and all other social media accounts. Still life with peaches and pear. 2021. Painted from life in my shadow box. Setting up a still life is like chosing what you want. The objects that you want to represent, the light that you want and overall you can compose it as your taste is. Painting from life observation is a huge difference than working from a photo. The real colors that you can only see in real life have nothing to do with the reproduction of a machine.

This is the third little study of a man with beard. And the last for now. This one was the fastest i have done. It took me around 45 min to block in the whole face and maybe some other 15 minutes to adjust some smaller areas. And i left it pretty unfinished, but i like it like that. Using the zorn palette for this portrait and working on gessoed paper. Check out the other two i have done and tell me which one you like the most. Portrait study of a man with beard 2021. Recently i was doing some portraits again. Trying to achieve a deep sense of atmosphere and good realism combined with a loose brushwork. This study was very helpful and i think i reached my goal. This painting is been done alla prima using the zorn palette. An other unfinished piece laying around in my studio. A few weeks ago i did this master study of „Amour a L‘affut“ by the french painter William Adolphe Bouguereau. Fascinated by the great technique of Bouguereau and his romantic way of representing art. I decided to make a copy of it. Working on a smaller scale, it is very difficult to achieve such a smoothness in the skin. And to be honest i think i am pretty much away from it. Overall i am still satisfied about the results, because i learned a lot doing it. As i said, it is not finished yet, as you can see in some parts of the painting. In the next few fotos you can see the development. I hope you like it. Please visit my website www.diegomanigrasso.com and check out my linktree in my bio. See u soon and stay safe

Io. Self portrait with pencil and charchoal. Since i can hold a pencil i am drawing. Back in the days i was drawing very often and i liked it. Nowadays i have to admit that i don’t like drawing anymore. I don’t enjoy it anymore. The positive part of it is that i’m not thinking while i draw. I just move my hands and switch of my head. But thats it. But this was very helpful because i found out that i always draw or paint myself when i am in a bad mood. I didn’t know that before. Now i know why.. I didn’t finish it because i was very sick of it after a while, sorry for that. Visit www.diegomanigrasso.com and check out my linktree in my bio to get access to all my social media.

„La vittoria“ 2021. The victory, 50x70oil on canvas. I was working with a very warm palette this time. Brown, red and orange tones dominate in this piece. What is to mention is the beautiful reflected light on the left side of the figure. I was playing with contrast around the figure, making the background lighter where the shadow is, and darker on the otherside where the light hits the cloth. The triangular composition is effective and works well. I hope you like it. Visit www.diegomanigrasso.com and check out my linktree in my bio to get access to all my social media.

„La disperazione e la lealtà“ 2021 „Despair and loyalty“ Im not gonna talk so much about the philosophy of this painting. You can make yourself an idea. I wanna talk about the composition that i think works very well here. It leads you thrue the painting as it shoud. The colours i used are warm and vibrant, without being too saturated in the shadows and the midtones. For the lights and reflected lights i used a cooler colour combination, specially the reflected lights that consist basically of the background colour. Overall it is a painting that works, and i am happy about it. Some parts need some more refining, but for now you can take a look at it. Take a look at my website www.diegomanigrasso.com aswell you can now find a link in my bio that will take you to all my social media accounts, i invite you to take a look at it too.

„La salvezza“ 2021. „the salvation“ is the name of this piece. What i first want to say about this, is that i don’t consider it finished. I am absolutely not satisfied with my brushwork. I will continue working on it, but i wanted to show it already. Maybe i will repost it once it is done. But for now, here it is. I named it like this because hope is the last thing you should loose in life. And you never know what will happen, and when you less expect it, there is salvation. I really love the composition i arranged, for this piece i used different references and it was not so easy to let them fit together, either in size and colours. The sciene is completly invented and i added this light coming from above, to accompany the female figure. Also as a symbolic element, to depict salvation. This painting measures 40x50 and i painted it alla prima. Please visit www.diegomanigrasso.com my page Diego Manigrasso fine art and Diego Manigrasso on YouTube.

„Il tormento“ 2020. This is my last painting of 2020. I am happy that i could finish it before the end of the year. I hope this is also a new beginning for me, i’ve got a lil bit tired of portraiture, so from now on my style of painting will change a lil bit. Not only you will see more figures than portraits here, but i also want to go for a new way of representation. I have a lot of projects going on right now, as you maybe saw in my storys. My YouTube channel is now ready to start, and it takes a lot of work to produce this content. But i am happy about every single step, and i hope you will check it out. I am trying to fill it with multilingual content so everybody will have something to watch there. Just about this piece, this piece represents the agony of the man. Based ofcourse also on this 2020 that was very difficult for me. I painted it with a verdaccio underpainting and up to 12 layers of transparent glazez on top. This painting measures 60x40 cm and its been painted on a streched canvas. The year is about to end. And this will be probably the last photo. I chose this picture, because this painting accompained me during this hard and unsicure year. I like to quote a sentence that i like really much. „La pittura, come la poesia e l’arte di creare delle anime che tengono compagnia ad altre anime.“ wich means „painting, like poetry is the art of creating souls that keep company with other souls.“ Take care 👋🏽

„Girl with pink hair“ from 2020. I started this painting about 8 month ago. It was done between march and april, just in the beginning of the first lockdown. In between of many portraits i decided to make a whole figure, i wanted to give the picture a special touch to it. As well something very contemporary and fresh. With a complex composition, rich of colours and an atmospere we are all familiar with.
I worked alla prima in sections, and later on with different glazes on top of some parts, specially in the background and the shadows. The light comes from the right, lighting up the room and the figure very smoothly.
This streched 50x70 cm canvas is been painted with oils. I hope you like it, i hope you enjoy it, and specially i hope you visit my webside www.diegomanigrasso.com

„Ritratto di Mia Martini“ („Portrait of Mia Martini“) from 2019. A portrait study of the great singer Mia Martini. Executed in oils on a gessoed paper. This kind of exercises are very helpful to better the way of drawing and the colour mixing. A fast way of work and application of paint are important to not get stuck in a different mindset. Let the gesture of it make the work for you. Check out www.diegomanigrasso.com

„Eagle“ from late 2018 maybe 2019. i don‘t remember exactly when i did it. It was a very fast scatch to capture the right proportions and colours. At that time i was about to paint as fast as i could without thinking to much, and that helped me a lot to loose up my brushwork and concentrate on values. Take a look at the other pictures to see the details. Check out www.diegomanigrasso.com
