The Order of the Cross of Liberty was founded on March 4,1918, upon the initiative of Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim.
The Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela was commissioned to design the Order’s insignia with the Old-Scandinavian Fylfot.

At its foundation there were seven classes: grand cross, cross of liberty (1st to 4th Class) and the medal of liberty (1st and 2nd Class).
The decorations of the Order of the Cross of Liberty were initially conferred only in time of war.

A decree was issued on 18 August 1944 enabling the decorations to be awarded in peacetime.
Also in 1944, Mannerheim (1867–1951) was designated as Grand Master for life.

Decorations of the order were awarded in great numbers during the World War II, partly due to Marshal Mannerheim having issued an order that wounded soldiers were to be awarded for their sacrifice, and Finland has no separate decoration for wounded.

The Cross of Liberty is usually reserved for commissioned officers, with the Medal of Liberty being awarded for soldiers of junior rank and NCOs.

The Cross of Liberty has a red ribbon when it is granted in wartime and a yellow ribbon when it is awarded in peacetime.

Associated with the Cross of Liberty is the Mannerheim Cross.

This badge was donated on January 30, 1934 by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who, with the approval of Reich President von Hindenburg, as President of the DRK, changed the statutes and expanded the classes.

The Ehrenring, unofficially called “Death's head ring" was a personal gift bestowed by Himmler.

On the inside of the ring was engraved the initial of the nane of the bearer, followed by full surname, the date of presentation, and a fac-simile of Himmler's signature, plus the abbreviations Slb. for "Seinem Lieben" or "His Beloved”.

The design of the ring reflects Himmler's interest in Germanic mysticism.
According to the document, the Death’s Head was meant to, “remind us that we should be ready at any time to lay down our lives for the good of the Germanic people”.
- Sig Rune, framed by a triangle represents the power of the sun and conquering energy.
- Hagal rune, framed by a hexagon represents the faith and camaraderie that was idealised by the leaders of the organisation.
- Sw****ka, standing on the vertex symbolyzed the power.
- Double runes, framed by a circle were Heilszeichen (signs of salvation) of the past.

Through statutes of 30 January 1937, the German National Order for Art and Science (German: Der Deutscher Nationalorden für Kunst und Wissenschaft) was an award created by Adolf Hi**er as a replacement for the Nobel Prize.
The prize was to be awarded each year to three outstanding German citizens who would receive 100,000 Reichsmarks which could be equally divided. Along with the prize money the recipient also received a certificate with the Order.
The Order, a round four pointed platinum star, with four gold National Eagles attached was designed by sculptor Müller-Erfurt, Berlin. It was to be worn on the left breast. In the centre is a medallion with a red enameled centre with the gold
head of Pallas Athene. On an ivory coloured enameled background in gold letters was the inscription FÜR KUNST UND WISSENSCHAFT (For Art and Science). This was surrounded by diamonds set in a gold border.
The total number of National Prizes awarded between 1937 and 1939 was nine, making it the rarest award given in N**i Germany. Due to the outbreak of the Second World War in Europe, no further awards were made.
