BEHIND THE SCENES - MY 2022 EUROS

I arrive in Gubbio on Monday evening 25/07, while all the others were on the track to free practice, I was still in the office for another day of work.
In the evening the car is not ready yet, I have to finish the setup, however I manage to complete everything and at 00.00 am in bed.

Tuesday is my first day of practice ... I hit the track for the first session and I say to myself ... "well, not bad ... the base is good". I have 5 more sessions left ... I will try various engines and different setups ... then tomorrow I will do more tests. I close the day in P18, for now everything is ok.

On Wednesday there are 6 more practice sessions, I start to feel a strange behavior of the car under gas and also the engines strangely start to go slower ... in the afternoon it rains and therefore I lose 3 practice sessions. I close the day in P19, but I'm not very happy ..

On Thursday I have the last free practice and two controlled runs, where I manage to place 18th and then I will start qualifying in the second heat. By now I continue to have setup and engine problems ... In the afternoon I do the first "safe" qualifying and finish 20th, in the second heat due to my mistake I can't improve ... oh well tomorrow I have three more (and I have to do them all well to make the semifinal).

Friday starts quite well, despite the usual setup and engine problems I manage to do two good qualifications in the top 20 ... The last one is decisive: I have to be able to make a top 10 result to enter the semifinals .. but before this the turning point of my European: while cleaning the car we realize that when I am full gas the car brakes !!!
Basically the return spring that I have on the brake rod is too tight and pushes the brake cam when I accelerate ... incredible !!! I have been rejecting engines since Tuesday and I say I have setup problems on the fast section of the track ... let's correct the error and start for the last heat ... result? P9 .. ah if I had corrected it before ... Unfortunately it is not enough for me. I finish qualifying in P17, I will start first in the quarter-finals.

SATURDAY - final day
The quarters should be quite easy, I have Collari that starts behind me but immediately his engine had a flame out at the start ... I start to make my pace and in the middle of the race I have about 6 seconds ahead of Concialdi ... good like this ... but at the refueling my engine cuts out ... luckily we restart quite quickly and I manage to close in P2. Now we play it in the semifinal.

At the start I try to avoid crashes and after the first 3 minutes I start to push, the car is now fine .. I overtake first Concialdi, then Hidalgo ... I see the group of the first ones in front ... I ask Nicola .. "how are we doing?" He replies "Mario we are fourth, okay". I know it's not enough because it's hotter and my semi is slower than the other ... we have to do thirds .... A few minutes from the end we are there ... we are third, after a while even Groskamp leaves due to problems ... According to!!! Yes we did it, we are in the final !!!!!

We will start in P9. I am very calm, the car is fine and I know that in the 45 minutes we can get a good result. Before the start I tell the mechanics: "ok ... if nothing happens we'll finish third".
At the start I leave quietly but after the first corner I find Raiola spinning and I can't avoid it ... A frontal crash that will damage the front bumper and the body supports (at the end of the race there are a lot of pieces missing). But it seems to me that the car is still going well and so I start to take my pace without putting too much stress on the tires.
I see Greiner and Dario walking away, but we are there in the group ... the third is halfway down the track and we lap at the same times, so we can play it, fine!
Halfway through the race, some problems start, I have one flame out when refueling and every I refuel the engine goes too rich and seems to stop, even when I get out of the pits ... I have to keep it up otherwise it goes out ... I tell Nicola "look that I will enter the pits full gas, grab it" ... I also have to be careful the first 3-4 laps after the refuel ... the engine gets too rich and tends to shut down, so I'm forced to keep it revved up even in the braking sections, inevitably arriving long and losing precious seconds.
There are 5 minutes left, we are fifth almost a lap behind Raiola fourth, I tell Nicola "what can we do?" and he tells me to manage because I ride almost on the same pace as Carmine, but we recover a little each lap, so 5 minutes are not enough to reach him. The race ends and we are in P5 !!! I'm very happy with how it turned out ... the only regret is having maybe discarded some more performing engines for that brake problem, but the important thing is still being competitive after solving that problem.

After the award ceremony I immediately run away, there is Sabino who has to do the play with the summer camp ... well I can also be home in time, what a week !!!!!!

Filippo Domanin with NT1 is 2022 EFRA Junior European Champion. Mario Spiniello finished 5th overall and Alessio Agostinelli finished 6th overall.

EC Gubbio 22 - Final Day

P5 after bump up from 1/4 finals! European Final after Cassino 2012 💪🏻 The entire package works very good, I’m sorry for a flame out and for loose a couple of seconds after every refuel, but I’m very happy for this result!

First of all I want to thanks my team XRAY for giving me a supercar, Massimo Fantini for the support during all the week… engines was 🔝, Pepe Group with his excellent fuel, Avid Racing Concepts LLC for giving me the best bearings, HIRO SEIKO for screws, Savox… servos works very good the entire week! Fabio Domanin and SRC team, my 2nd family…

EC Gubbio 22 - Last qualifying day

Finally in 4th round we found and solved the problem that we had for all the week. In last round of qualify we took P9, but not enough to take the semi. So tomorrow we will start from P1 in 1/4 final. Come on!!!

In my first heat I had a safe run with new tires, in the 2nd I made a mistake when I was in 5th position of my group. I’m sorry. Hope tomorrow will be better. Congrats to my teammate … awesome run and best lap in 15.98!!!

We ran only 3 practice due to this afternoon rain. Car is ok, p18 at the moment, but I’m confident for tomorrow.
