Part 2 - MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION

Il 30 aprile le classi 10th, 11th e 12th hanno attraversato la città con Giorgio Bassani, inaugurando il secondo dei tre itinerari della guida "Ferrara dentro", recentemente pubblicata da Comune di Ferrara a cura di Barbara Pizzo, nostra docente di Lingua e Letteratura Italiana.

Elisabetta Pietrobon (IAT Ferrara) li ha accompagnati alla scoperta di "Dietro la porta del ghetto": partiti da Corso Martiri della Libertà, dalla spalletta dell'eccidio del 15 novembre '43, hanno percorso la zona del ghetto ritrovando luoghi, vicende, personaggi allusi o reinventati dalla penna dello scrittore Ferrarese nelle sue opere, fino ad arrivare al MEIS, l'ex carcere di Piangipane dove Bassani è stato rinchiuso per antifascismo nel 1943.
Al MEIS hanno poi visitato la mostra "Ebrei nel Novecento italiano".

Porta Mare's gym transformed into a small theatre thanks to the "Ambaradan Teatro Ragazzi" theatre company from Bologna. "Betty The Little Bee" accompanied the Happy Hedgehogs, Busy Bees and Cool Caterpillars on a journey to discover the importance of respecting her species and all living things. Thank you Betty Bee and thank you to all your lovely friends!

"Happy Hedgehogs took part in an exciting interactive workshop at Ferrara's Natural History Museum called "Nature in Small Steps".
Barefoot and step by step, the children walked through a sensory track made of different types of natural materials, followed by a close encounter with some cute animals. So much fun and learning!"

The Bubbly and lively Butterflies went to visit the fascinating Escher exhibition showing at Palazzo dei Diamanti. At the end of their visit they took part in an exciting workshop with the association 'Senza titolo' and created their own 3D masterpieces.

Smiling International chose to join the Comune di Ferrara project "Siamo Nati per camminare e muoverci sostenibili", a challenge that involved our students from 8th to 19th April, with the aim of coming to school in the most sustainable way possible.

🌱This project touches one of the cross-cutting topics covered by Stepping Stones: sustainability.

In Science, in 5th Grade, we are learning about the muscles and bones in our body so we made this really cool articulated hand to show how the bones, joints and muscles work together to make our fingers move. Check out our amazing models!

🏆At Smiling we always celebrate our students’ victories and achievements. For instance, 4th graders Amazons rewarded the fellow schoolmates of 6th and 7th grades, as they had participated with great results to a Chinese competition of artworks, in 2022.
🥇🥈🥉Our students showed great commitment and deep interest in Chinese culture.
Congratulations to Pierpaolo, Giuseppe, Giulio, Diletta and Ada for winning the 1rst, 2nd and 3rd place!

We welcomed today the President and Vice President of Houston Space Center collaborating with Smiling International School to create a unique STEM program. We are the first school in Italy and the second in the world to participate in the Moonshot pilot program.

"Scrunching paper into spring blossoms, we have made a spring tree for our class"
The Early Years have been exploring spring and after observing the beautiful pink blossom in the Big Garden, they made their own spring tree collages.

L'acqua è stata scelta come argomento trasversale e interdisciplinare per l'attuale anno scolastico e la Giornata Mondiale dell'Acqua è stata l'occasione perfetta per raccontare e condividere le attività svolte.
Per questa ricorrenza, la scuola ha organizzato il contest H2O...e STO! a cui i ragazzi hanno partecipato con grande entusiasmo! Scorri per scoprire i vincitori e i premi 🥳
La mattinata di attività si è conclusa con un quiz organizzato dai ragazzi di 12th, un momento ludico ed educativo, che ha messo in campo le conoscenze acquisite e il desiderio di vincere una gustosa torta.

Water was chosen as a cross-curricular and interdisciplinary topic for the current school year, and International Water Day was the perfect opportunity to share the activities carried out.
For this occasion, the school organized the H2O...and STO! contest in which the students participated with great enthusiasm! Swipe to find out the winners and prizes 🥳
The morning of activities ended with a quiz organized by the 12th graders, a playful and educational moment that gathered the students, their knowledge and the desire to win a tasty cake.

The Butterflies and Cool Caterpillars celebrated World Water Day by taking part in a fun Green workshop called 'Blu Blu Blup' organized and held online by HERA. The children learnt about the importance of water and not wasting it through a creative arts and crafts activity. Following the instructions of the organizer online, they each made a musical instrument with the sound of the waves to remind them how important it is to look after water, our seas and the Planet.

The 5th graders, who will soon go to the museum to discover the Spina findings, cooked a recipe of Etruscan origin called Tyropatinam. Here they are in the kitchen and in the classroom tasting this excellent pudding!

Le classi quinte, che si stanno preparando ad andare al museo per scoprire i ritrovamenti di Spina, hanno cucinato una ricetta di origine etrusca che si chiama Tyropatinam. Eccoli in cucina e in classe per la degustazione di questo ottimo budino!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day☘

The Bubbly and Lively Butterflies met up with a Year 1 class at Robert Sandilands Primary School in England as part of the energy-saving campaign 'M'illumino di Meno - No Borders'. They gave their new friends 10 suggestions on how to look after our Planet, painting posters to illustrate their ideas.

The children will continue to meet online over the course of the rest of the year and will exchange information about their schools, towns and countries. What a great way to make new friends and to spread an important message!

“Sommersi Salvati” è la mostra fotografica che racconta la storia di un salvataggio storico e culturale, frutto di forza di volontà e coesione, documentata da Silvia Camporesi e Nino Migliori. I libri custoditi nella biblioteca del Seminario Vescovile di Forlì sono stati sommersi durante la forte alluvione che ha colpito l’Emilia Romagna lo scorso maggio 2023 e poi salvati da un gruppo di volontari e volontarie.
Le foto di quei toccanti momenti sono state raccolte in una mostra allestita nella Sala dei Comuni del Castello Estense di Ferrara in collaborazione con il Seminario Vescovile di Forlì, Fondazione Ferrara Arte e Servizio Musei d’Arte del Comune di Ferrara.

Documented by Silvia Camporesi and Nino Migliori, "Sommersi Salvati" is a photographic exhibition that tells us about a historical and cultural rescue, the result of willingness and cohesion. The books, kept in the library of the Seminario Vescovile in Forlì were inundated during the heavy flooding that hit Emilia Romagna last May 2023 and then rescued by a group of volunteers.
Those touching moments have been caught in photos which are now collected in the exhibition at Sala dei Comuni of the Estense Castle in Ferrara, in collaboration with the Seminario Vescovile, Fondazione Ferrara Arte and the Servizio Musei d’Arte of the Municipality of Ferrara.

I ragazzi di 7th e 8th accompagnati dai docenti hanno assistito allo spettacolo “Storia di un NO” presso la Sala Estense.

Lo spettacolo tratta temi sensibili come la violenza di genere , l’educazione sentimentale, la parità di genere, parlando ai ragazzi e alle ragazze con un linguaggio a loro vicino.

The 7th and 8th graders accompanied by teachers attended the play "Storia di un NO" at the Sala Estense.

The play deals with sensitive issues such as gender violence , sentimental education, gender equality, and speaking to teenagers in a language that is closer to them.
