The answer to our Sunday maths question, taken from a 2016 year 5 exam is more about visualisation as it is about finding the answers. Our Head of Maths, Kevin McGinty says "You have to be able to see the problem to be able to discover the process for finding the answer." The first shape gives you the total vertical and horizontal line lengths and with a bit of 'visualisation' we can infer the combined lengths of the missing vertical lines. The same goes for the horizontal lines and for the 2nd shape.
