“MEDICATION” USE DURING BROILER BIRD PRODUCTION
recommends supplementing the drinking water of day old birds with vitamins and electrolytes for a period of 4-5 days but never more than one week. Vitamins and electrolytes are useful in increasing birds’ appetite, reducing stress and boosting their immune system.
Some farmers provide molasses, glucose or sugar in water for baby birds. This is done in an effort to provide energy for birds that have not been put on water and feed soon after purchase from the farm store. We recommend to use sugar or glucose only when needed.
To all mothers out there, Happy Mother's Day. We love you so much more than you could ever know. ❤️
3 weeks to go! Let’s countdown together!
Before making any decisions to grow broilers for meat, farmers should investigate their local market to determine the demand for the meat within that area. Every effort should be made to secure a market and agreed price before commencing production. You should consider schools, supermarkets, meat shops and local restaurants. Oftentimes farmers enter into the business of growing broilers as a mean of supplemental income without doing their research into the local situation. This can result in farmers not being able to sell their finished products. It is very important to always grow the amount that your market demands.

⚪️ PREPARING FOR SLAUGHTER
• Remove feed from birds 8-10 hours before slaughter time.
• Maintain drinking water up to the time of slaughter.
• Prepare slaughtering area by cleaning and disinfecting with bleach
• Prepare hot water for scalding
• Put ice and water in place for chilling (cooling) carcasses.
• Ensure that there is adequate amount of clean water available (chlorinated water).
• Have a thermometer on hand!
⚪️ BLEEDING
• Catch birds by the feet and place in killing cones head down
• Take the head in one hand with the comb in the palm and use a sharp knife to cut jugular veins on both sides of the neck.
• Bird’s neck should be firmly held.
• After bird stops moving, dip in hot water
(140oF or 60oC) for 30-40 seconds.
• Move birds up and down to get good penetra-
tion. A little soap in the water helps.
• Remove feathers by rubbing.
• Use open flame to get off those hard-to-re- move fine feathers.
• Place the carcass in cool water (icy slush).
This prevents growth of bacteria and prevents browning of the skin.
Growth hormones added to chicken feed have been said to produce not only larger, plumper chickens but to contaminate the food chain putting lovers of 'the white meat' at risk for various health conditions, including cancers. However, the local poultry industry say that their chicken is hormone-free and one chicken producer, The Clucking Chicken, Ja, has indicated that their products will now carry 'hormone-free' labels.
Our chickens are antibiotic-free, hormone-free, and steroid-free, while remaining committed to ensuring public health is un-compromised, human communities are unaffected by bi-products of farming, and animal welfare is kept as our number one priority.
Share with family and friend, the good quality chickens available for purchase. 🐔❤️
Effects of Adding Aloe Vera and Garlic on Performance and Liver Functions of Broiler Chickens
Broilers are one of the popular species of poultry birds that people raise for money or slaughter for meat production. Some people have been in the broilers farming business for some time but couldn’t differentiate a male broiler from a female broiler. The truth is that I have received many questions from some people concerning this. So, to make it easy for others who may find it challenging to figure out the differences between male and female broilers.
There are quick ways to determine the s*x of a broiler chicken. They are as follows:
Combs and Wattles
Generally, male birds develop larger, prominent combs and wattles more than the females. So whenever you sight a broiler with a prominent and large comb and wattle, that broiler is 98% guaranteed to be a male broiler.
Another way to differentiate a male broiler from a female broiler is by their body size. Male broilers usually have a bigger body size than female broilers. This wouldn’t happen if the male is a “runt”. This is when you see female broilers having a bigger body size than male broilers of the same age. Additionally, a male broiler tends to have longer, thicker and bigger legs than a female broiler.
Mature male broilers make noise (crowing), which is a s*x-linked trait common to all male birds. Mature male broilers crow like other roosters while it is a rare trait in female broilers.
If you are dealing with broiler chicks, it requires experience and expertise to differentiate both s*xes. The method uses include:
Cloacal Inspection
Feather Inspection

Litter management is fundamental to birds’ health, performance and final carcass qual- ity.
Good litter absorbs moisture, contains no dust, minimises manure contact and pro- vides insulation from cold floor temperatures. Although sawdust is recommended, avoid sawdust or wood shavings from “bitterwood” or from old furniture or preserved wood as the residual chemicals from the wood can be poisonous to both birds and human beings.
To successfully raise broiler chicks, you need to know and implement a specific set of practices which are wholly based on maintaining a high degree of cleanliness:
Ensure your coop is ready for the chicks’ arrival:
a. Clean and dry chicken house
b. Clean, fresh litter
c. Clean Water pans filled with fresh clean water
d. Clean Feeder pans ready for feeding.
e. Brooding area ready with Heat lamps and curtains
Older Birds
- Any time that broiler birds are put through
a stressful period, the addition of electrolytes and vitamins may assist the birds in a quicker recovery. These additives can also cause lose droppings if not properly administered, so they are not always beneficial or economical. Sick birds or those with a compromised immune system will consume less feed and subsequently slow down in growth and development. @ Portmore, Jamaica
In the situation of Heat Stress
- Cooling and ventilation to remove hot air from around the birds, open cutains and introduce fans if necessary.
