SMARTKID started singing at a very early age but found that without adequate support it was not easy to make the transition into the music industry. Being very passionate about music and while he possesses impeccable work ethics, his interest in singing faded but remained committed to his dream of one day becoming a main player in the music business. He began promoting parties and the results were overwhelming, allowing him to use this opportunity to integrate into the music fraternity. It then became obvious that there are many talented people in Jamaica and other parts of the world who struggle, like he did, to break into the music business. He realized that he really wanted to be instrumental in assisting these persons with the honing of their talents and getting them recognized. His dream of becoming a Producer/Recording Engineer and Artiste Manager was actualized through much hard work, persistence, and dedication. In later years he ventured into publishing, event planning and as a booking agent for various artistes. Omar “Smartkid” Currie has worked with some of the most renowned entertainers, such as, Tarrus Riley, Kabaka Pyramid, Runkus, Jesse Royal, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Spragga Benz, Sizzla, Zamunda, Lutan Fyah, Merciless, Jah-9, Christopher Martin, Frisko Kid, Junior Reid, Andrew and Wadda Blood, Ky-Mani Marley and many others. He has released several albums including the True Frenz album, Life Riddim (2010); Set if Off Riddim project (2016); Success of Discipline (2018); Lead Us Jah single (2022). and more recently “I Am Blessed” single (2023). The PROSPERITY album, that turns dreams into reality, features seven (7) powerful and inspiring songs by Tarrus Riley, Sizzla, Runkus, Lutan Fyah and Smartkid himself. There is a remix (Prosperity), with Tarrus Riley and more, and this features two (2) talented minors (Jamie-Lee Wilson aka J-Lee, Daniel Burgess aka Dan-Dan), which brings thought provoking words to the listener. The album will be released on September 08, 2023, as a gift from the universe, in celebration of SMARTKID earthstrong, and the movements of Jah People. Currie has been integral in the shooting of several music videos including the recently released single “Make it Breathe” by Runkus ft. Tarrus Riley, “$$$” (Money) by Runkus, 5Gs, to name a few. For his production skills on the track entitled “Like Dat” by Jesse Royal featuring Runkus, Omar “Smartkid” Currie has been included in the list of recipients on the Grammy nominated album “Royal” by Jesse Royal. This track was composed and recorded at Smartkid Records Recording Studio.
