In my final year at Sophia, I took a year of exchange at UT Austin. I ended up launching my own company and was recently appointed a regional manager for a private equity owned software portfolio.

The much esteemed and beloved Professor David W**k retires from Sophia University this week and will be giving his "final lecture" at the Faculty of Liberal Arts. The event is face-to-face, but we do hope former students and colleagues can join!
Professor W**k has positively impacted the lives of many undergraduate and graduate students belonging to our alumni division for over 3 decades.

Challenges of Creating Liberal Arts and Global Studies Programs at Sophia University
Sophia University has been a pioneer in Japanese higher education. This talk highlights crucial endeavors from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s as my colleagues and I tackled issues, overcame obstacles, and devised solutions that created the Faculty of Liberal Arts and the Graduate School of Global Studies. Reflecting on this process offers insights into educational institution building.

聖フランシスコ・ザビエル司祭
1506年-1552年
ザビエルは、スペイン、ナバラ地方の貴族の家に生まれた。1526年からパリ大学で学び、そこでイグナチオ・デ・ロヨラと知りあった。イグナチオの考え方に影響を受けフランシスコは、名誉も財産も捨て、キリストに従う生き方をしようとイグナチオの仲間となった。1534年にパリのモンマルトルで誓いを立て、宣教に身をささげるイエズス会を創立した。3年後に司祭となったフランシスコは、イタリアで活躍し、その後1541年にはポルトガル王の要請を受けて、イグナチオからインドに派遣された。
インドでは、気候・風土・習慣などの困難にあいながらも、宣教に尽くし多くの人びとに洗礼を授けた。その後マレーシア、インドネシア、フィリピンなどの島々を巡り宣教した。マラッカで日本人のやじろうと出会い、彼を信仰に導き、1549年、彼とともに日本の鹿児島に渡った。平戸、博多、山口を通って、天皇から宣教の許可を得るために京都に向かったが、会うことができずに山口に戻った。そこで大名の大内義隆より宣教の許可を得、熱心に活動した。その後、日本が中国の仏教の影響を受けていることを知ったフランシスコは、まず中国に渡ることを決意し、1551年に日本を離れインドに戻った。中国に入ろうと努力するが、広東港外の上川島で病気になり、亡くなった。フランシスコの遺体はゴアに移された。

It is a great occasion to have all SIAA members, Sophia Xpress, faculty and friends to get together to share friendship. o(^_^)o

We are holding an open forum for students and alumni.
Cardinal Hollerich who will deliver a few kind words to alumni and students and take some questions from them. Summary: The first event will include some kind remarks from Cardinal Hollerich followed by a talk session/interview.
Afterwards there will be fellowship sharing/an online beverage “nomikai”: “World of Beer/Life After Sophia” (non-alcoholic for attendees under 20 years of age).

On October 31, over 90 alumni and current Sophians joined the inaugural Global Branding Forum at Sophians Club in Yotsuya, hosted by Sophia International Alumni Association in collaboration together with Sophia-kai and Sophia University Faculty of Liberal Arts.
The Forum featured a keynote presentation on brand purpose and strategy from renowned authority Dr. Dominique Turpin, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session with personal branding expert Miki Yamada, moderated by SIAA Chair Jun Tanaka.
During the networking session, two lucky students won Halloween costume contest prizes: a ¥30,000 gift certificate (sponsored by SIAA) and a professional CV/LinkedIn photo session (sponsored by Parthenon Japan).
