10月28日（土）に、スティーブン・ギルによるイベント「Magnificent Failure」を、ドーバーストリートマーケット ギンザ（DSMG）7階 書籍スペース BIBLIOTHECA（ビブリオテカ）にて開催いたします。
当日はスティーブンによるトークイベントと作品のプレゼンテーション、また来場者の方に向けたネイルプリンティングサービスをご用意しております。
このPOSTとDSMGによるイベントでは、スティーブンの新刊『Magnificent Failure』と、当日店頭でご購入いただくことのできるヴィンテージプリント、またコロタイプ印刷で制作した未発表のプリントがお披露目になります。
またこのイベントのためにTシャツとポスターも用意しており、ヴィンテージプリント以外はオンラインサイトでもご購入いただけます。

We are happy to announce Stephen Gill’s Magnificent Failure. An event that will take place over the course of a day at Dover Street Market Ginza (DSMG) on 28th October 2023. Stephen will be giving a talk, presentation of his work and offer a fingernail printing service for visitors.
This in-store event will be hosted by DSMG and POST and a new book titled Magnificent Failure will be launched on the same day, there will be a selection of vintage prints available to purchase (in store only) as well as new Collotype print editions of unseen images from The Pillar series. These Collotype prints, new and rare books will be available to purchase online also as well as new T shirts and 7 posters created for the event. It looks to be a fun day that will also include a workshop with Takashi Homma.
If you are in the area, please pop by or keep an eye on the POST web store for more information and as a way to purchase books, prints and posters etc. online.

『Anonymous Origami』

このシリーズと写真集の写真は、2004年から2007年にかけてイギリス、フランス、スペイン、イタリア、ルーマニア、オランダ、ドイツ、ロシア、アメリカ、カナダ、日本など、世界各地のホテルやB&Bで収集した“折りたたまれたトイレットペーパー”を撮影したものです。

当初は、それぞれの紙がどこのものかを明記するつもりでしたが、悲しいかな、すべてごちゃ混ぜになってしまいました。

発見された場所が不明となり、作品は匿名の作者からさらに一歩離れたところに立っているこのシリーズは、人知れず頑張っている人たちへのねぎらいの気持ちも込めています。

このように、現代社会が抱えるプレッシャーに対抗するように、「思いやり」や「気配り」のシンボルが増えてきています。

Anonymous Origami

The photographs in this series and book feature folded toilet paper sourced between 2004 and 2007. They were collected at hotels and B&Bs from different parts of the world including The UK, France, Spain, Italy, Romania, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, United States, Canada and Japan. Initially I intended to state where each paper is from, but sadly they all got mixed up.
With the places they were found, now unknown, the creations stood one step even further away from their anonymous creators.
This series was a acknowledgment of those whose hard work often goes unnoticed. With this in mind at the time there were increasing amounts of symbols of suggested care and love that seem to counter the high pace and pressure of modern life.

ポーランドでの写真をもっと。

24歳の時、1995年から1997年にかけて、バス、電車、徒歩でポーランドを何度か旅行した。

その後ロンドンでポーランド人と知り合い、ヘンリク・ゴレッキの交響曲第3番を初めて聴いたときにも、その魅力に取り付かれて訪ねてみることにしました。

このシリーズがきっかけで、ニューヨークタイムズ誌の依頼でポーランドを再訪し、1996年にノーベル文学賞を受賞したヴィスワ・シンボルシュカのポートレート（ここに掲載）を初めて制作しました。

彼女はとても撮影嫌いで、その結果私は彼女の写真を2枚作ることになりました。

More pictures from Poland. I made several trips to Poland between 1995 and 1997 getting around by bus, train and foot.
I was 24 at the time.
After meeting people from Poland in London, also first hearing Henryk Gorecki Symphony No. 3 sparked enough intrigue to visit. This series resulted in my first commission for the New York Times magazine to re visit Poland and make a portrait of Wislawa Szymborska (included here) who was the recipient of the 1996 Nobel prize in literature.
She was very camera shy and this resulted in me making two pictures of her.
