FINAL PRACTICUM

Please note that the Final Teaching Practicum for upgrade students is part of the requirements for award of Diploma in Primary Teacher Education. The Ministry of Education in conjunction with KNEC and KICD has set the duration of practicum to be 9 weeks, failure to which , a candidate will not have met the required conditions for the award of the Diploma.

This yeara Ts practicum started on 26th September and ends on 25th November 2022. Any students who wishes to terminate their practicum should write an official letter to the college so that we forward to KNEC. Such a student will be required to complete the remaining hours in the next practicum and hence will get CRNM this year.

You must be a Kenyan citizen.
1.Have a P1 certificate.
2. Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and certification in at least two subjects.
3. A C+ Mean average in the KCSE is required.
4. Must be a TSC Teacher
5. Primary school teachers with the following qualifications will qualify to teach junior secondary.

1. Diploma and Degree in Special Needs Education
2. Degree in Early Childhood Development Education
3. Diploma in Education (Primary option)
4. Diploma in Education, Secondary option
5. Degree in Education (Secondary option) but lacking C+ at KCSE or C+ in teaching subjects.

Following the consultative meeting held on 16th September, 2022, between the College, Head Teachers of Practicum schools and an Officer from Quality Assurance and Standards, Nandi County, it was resolved as follows:-
1. That, it is mandatory for teacher trainees on practicum to Scheme with the regular teacher(s)/mentor(s) for all the learning areas that they co-teach for purpose of uniformity and smooth implementation of the Curriculum.

2. That all the teacher trainees are expected to prepare quality professional documents and learning resources latest 27th September, 2022.

3. Approval of professional documents and Internal Assessment will be done in practicum school from 28th September a " 5th October, 2022.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION All teachers who wish to be considered for admission to Teacher Training Colleges for upgrading from Certificate in Early Childhood Teacher Education (ECDE) and from Primary Teacher Education (PTE) to Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) and Diploma Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) are invited to apply. This upgrading program is for trained teachers in the above categories who are yet to be employed by Teachers Service Commission (TSC), County Government or Private sector. The school based upgrading program to benefit teachers in service will commence in April 2023. Application forms are available on the Ministry of Education website www.education.go.ke. Duly filled application forms should be submitted to the Sub County Directors of Education office from Thursday 28th July, 2022 to Thursday 18th August, 2022 by the applicants in person to ease verification of original certification and testimonials. Those with special needs are encouraged to apply. Candidates are advised to register in only one center. Double registration will lead to automatic disqualification. The letter of offer will stipulate the fees and other requirements. REQUIREMENTS FOR UPGRADING TO DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION (DECTE) 1. The applicant must possess a valid ECDE Certificate NOT provisional. The ECDE certificate must have been obtained from a recognized training Institution 2. The duration of the Course shall be 1890 Hours. 3. The course shall be fully residential and shall last for 5 terms 4 for tuition and 1 for practicum. 4. The trainee shall take all courses specified in the upgrading programme of Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE). 5. The trainees shall undertake a Teaching Practicum of 300 Hours. 6. To be awarded the Diploma, the trainee must complete the required hours for Course Work and pass the stipulated assessment by the Kenya National Examination Council.
