The manual method of scooping cashew nut using needle is labour intensive, slow and a tedious process. We have automated this process with our shelling machine but after shelling most of the kernels will not be free from the shell, few of our ladies will manually scoop by placing the unscooped nuts in hand and removing with a needle type screw driver.An average scooper can open ten nuts per minute which amounts to 6 nuts or about 1.8 kg of kernels per hour. We are in awe of their dedication to perfection.

Working directly with farmers is quite a blessing. Every trip is a learning adventure .Meeting hardworking people living a full happy life away from the interruptions of technology can be quite a fulfilling experience. This is one of the farming couple in Lunga-Lunga who entertained me with tales of living off land after a heavy lunch of Ugali and open fire grilled fish. We discussed water concerns and the rise of farmers eliminating third party brokers and selling their produce straight to companies, this has greatly improved the ordinary farmers’ life enabling them to access health services and extend education services and facilities to their children among other things. For instance, in their village called Mwereni, they have created a community led group for farmers who have pooled their resources and together they have built small go downs to store harvested cashew nuts and protect from sudden weather change, these, they later sell to buyers with suitable offers .Selling as a group has helped them collectively challenge and bargain for better prices

The beauty of most of the locations where our cashew nut farmers reside speaks for itself.For instance marvel at the simplicity of this beautiful house in Lunga-Lunga ,south coast Kenya .Lunga-Lunga is one of the areas we source from and each house in the area is humbly and uniquely decorated and stands out from the rest. An ensemble of green , red, and blue doors standing stark against mud walls backdrop and an assortment of herbs and flowers around each compound.Despite inadequate water in most homesteads the villagers still choose to live colorfully.

We pride ourselves in organisational work flow. A look inside one of our go-downs where our grading specialists are busy at work sorting through the different grades that we have in cashew.
