... For those who would like to know
π΅π΅ The stock market has a reputation for wealth creation which comes with patience and the ability to spot good opportunities.
Examples are in plenty, like the little noticed doubling of Safaricomβs share price on the Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC (NSE) from about KES 20 to KES 42 per share over the period of about three months (March to June 2021).
ππ Or outside of the blue-chips, where a majority of the Kenyan market is concentrated; investors overlook smaller Companies which also deliver high returns. For example, the largest gainer at the NSE in 2022 has been Car and General gaining 30.34% as at 4th July 2022.
This is just a small sample of the phenomenon that occurs regularly on the NSE and often goes unnoticed by majority of investors.
πππ Some of this building of wealth is so gradual that it is hardly noticeable. Taking the example of the Safaricom PLC share, which listed on the NSE for the first time in 2008 at a KES 5.00 listing price. With the ability to buy as little as 100 shares, investors have slowly accumulated the Stock over these 14 years, buying more and more during depressed market periods.
π π In 2021, when a Safaricom share was trading at around KES 44.95 per share, an investor who patiently accumulated 300,000 Safaricom shares, sat on a wealth of KES 13.5Mn. Of course, excluding dividends gained over the years. All this gained with little sweat but lots of patience.
ππ Stepping into 2022, our observations of the NSE market points to a bear market, or in simple terms; a severely depressed market.
As a result, a sizable percentage of the listed Company shares are currently trading at all-time slumps. Many of these are growing, fundamentally sound Companies with religious dividend payments and lots of value.
ππThis is another unique opportunity for investors to buy at attractive prices and enjoy capital gains when the market rebounds. Investors should also take up dividend-paying counters and reap high dividend yields from stocks they bought at these depressed prices.
πΈπΈTo quote the famous Warren Buffet, the Stock Market is designed to transfer money from the active to the patient.
Letβs buckle up and make some gains.
