Physics 101: what happens when you rapidly cool hot metal?

I believe the explanation is simple, this happened due to cracks in the rotor that broke it apart with hard braking.
The cracks were most probably resulted from driving through a puddle of water after a long trip in really hot weather, the disc is very hot + water is relatively cold = cracks that broke apart or immediate shattering of disc… simple

Another explanation is that the disc is of poor quality cast iron, maybe not the car manufacturer’s genuine parts or even OEM.
Poor disc material quality + extreme conditions (ie: hot weather, hard braking) = shattered disc
