Anytime a woman is menstruating, they are perceived to be behaving in a certain way; mostly aggressively, sensitively or a sharp manner. Other people even claim that menstruating women do not function well at work, a claim that has no basis in reality. For as much as women tend to have mood swings during this time as a result of shifting of hormones, it does not render them unable to work as well as other people are. This is one of the key contributors towards period stigma.

Mara Pads partnered with Oloonkolin Mara hospital and Mara water supplies to educate school girls from the local communities in Trans Mara Kenya on how to deal with such kind of period stigma.
We aim at changing this kind of narrative because it is normal to be a girl, it is normal to menstruate and that does not make us any less of a person.

Our vision is to 🌸 Fight Period stigma 🌸

Periods have been looked at in a certain way in our communities in the past which has made women and young girls shy away from expressing what they feel during this time of the month openly. The truth is that there are lots of important things to talk about on periods which should not be hidden. The fact women were even considered unclean when on their periods is still surprising because, periods are a natural part of being in women and they cannot change that. Periods do not define who they are or what they are capable of.

We therefore aim to fight the stigmatization surrounding periods in women and encourage young girls to be able to speak openly, without fear on things they feel should be addressed regarding periods and womanhood in general.
