Empowerment of girls and women is about a process of social change and education can trigger that empowerment process. The school 🏫 should be a safe space for both girls and boys to be nurtured and to develop their potential and achieve their goals.

In Kenya, teenage pregnancy is a high risk as well as a socio-economic challenge fueled by a complex of factors. Statistics show that 1 in every 5 girls between 15-19 years is either pregnant or already a mother. Global Childhood (2019) notes that Kenya has the third-highest teen pregnancy rates in Africa, with 96 births per 1,000 births. We need to raise our voices, a rallying cry to empower our girls and women to make informed choices and decisions.

Education plays a critical role in girls' empowerment as it provides a safe passage to adulthood. And it's not just any type of education but a transformative kind of education that develops learners' critical and creative thinking and socializes them to focus on their own personal and social betterment.
