Inspired by various events and people, I decided to begin my very own wellness journey. The purpose

It’s been one year since we went into lockdown and I would like to share with you how I have evolved during this time.
Well, apart from learning that I can play a character on Grey’s anatomy; (handwashing feels like scrubbing in and I can wear a mask for hours 👩🏾⚕️ ) - during the past year, I made the painful realization that I have spent most of my adult life trying to please people and live up to their expectations. Trying to make everyone happy has dented my self-confidence: it affected my ability to make the simplest decisions without someone’s input, and made me second guess and talk myself out of many things. It made me an often sad, angry person who sometimes lashed out at others. It was hard to find joy and be content with my life.
Learning this about myself was the easy part....taking the steps to heal from it…not so easy. Every day, I try to unlearn old habits and live life on my terms. How? By recognizing, appreciating and, loving what I am good at and building on it (like trying to get my toes to reach my head - swipe ➡️ ➡️).
I acknowledge my weaknesses, take risks and own my mistakes. I also surround myself with people who love me at my best and my worst. I try to remember that I was uniquely and wonderfully made and that I always have something to bring to the table. I may not be everyone’s cup of tea and I do not have to apologize for that or try to be who they want me to be 👸🏾.
It has been a tough process; there are the bad days when I go back to where I was but the great thing is that with each new day I have the chance to renew and reset. So, I pick myself up, dust myself off and continue my journey.
How have you evolved?
(P.S - if Shonda Rhimes is casting for a short and spunky African woman as a surgeon on Grey's, please let me know. I am willing to try new things. -growth)
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
Happy Valentine's day from my squad ❤️❤️🥰
This post is about where I was versus where I am and about
the power of sharing. The first picture (swipe ➡️) was five months ago, when I was struggling with acne... And asking myself "wtf??. In the middle of a pandemic?" And the last one is as a result of reaching out to the right person who will lead you to the right people and the journey still continues and I am forever grateful 🥰
Now that you've had a laugh at my wakeboarding attempt... Let's talk self-care. I am curious about the problems you may face when it comes to practicing self-care. Please take a moment to fill out a brief survey - the link is below- and let's brainstorm some solutions. ❤️

This salad will tantalise your taste buds..... I looooved the vinaigrette. Got the recipe from - she never disappoints 💖!⠀
⠀
FYI: I couldn't find locally grown pears so I used apples instead. For a full meal, I added roasted sweet potatoes🍠🍠🍠.⠀

Please tell me where I can buy locally 🇰🇪🇰🇪 grown pears?? The imported ones are too expensive, and the way this economy is set up....

In the 90s and early 2000s showing off your midriff was the trend. I remember crop tops and belly button pearcings, music videos and magazines filled with models that had the perfect abs.
According to me, I didn't have those abs so there was no way I could look good in a crop top. This is when my body image issues started and snowballed into self body-shaming and low self esteem. ⠀
⠀
It's taken me all these years to get to a place where I can begin to love & respect my body. I've written an article on my journey to body acceptance. Here is the link

Not a fun fact: I am lactose intolerant, something that inexplicably developed in adulthood. Up until recently, I could not eat cereal with cold milk or milk & cookies. All that changed the day Lactose free milk became available in stores...
⠀
Side note - I discovered this recipe for Anzac biscuits while looking for ideas on what I can bake with the kids. Turns out they are so yummy and moist that we ended up eating most of them.⠀

It's getting harder to eat healthy these days; I've lost the drive I used to have. I do try my best to squeeze in a smoothie here and there because they are quick to make and very nutritious. I loved this Super Green smoothie - it has spinach, pineapple, and avocado.⠀ ⠀
I've put together an Ebook of a collection of some of my favorite healthy recipes for you to try...if you'd like to download the same, here is the link - https://awesome-mover-6084.ck.page/cd986e1a4d

Sound on ----I've been watching the series videos on TikTok and loving them. I finally got one I can take part it in and does not require that I dress up or put on make up - challenge...I reshot it so many times that it counted as the workout of the day! It was so much fun though 😁

Happy Monday!
I tried to do Yoga. Started off very well but eventually the kids thought I was a horse...so yeah..⠀
⠀
Can you guys recommend any good yoga classes that I can attend in Nairobi (once curfew/social distancing measures are lifted) ?⠀

I'm pretty sure that when all of this comes to an end, most of us will be adding on to or revising the hobbies section of our résumés. Including me.....now what is an engaging way of saying I love cooking..

I needed to get out of the "Rona" blues; so I decided to start trying new workout formats. Starting with Tabata; which I thought was a dance workout but it wasn't...watch till the end to get my review.
These sweet little creations.⠀
I often look at them and wonder: How am I their mother? ⠀
⠀
Sometimes, I don't know if I'm doing the right thing by them...⠀
My own life is not 💯,
Am I a good role model?⠀
⠀
Then there's those times, those moments, when one of them does something so endearing...⠀
⠀
Like waking up from a nap and calling out "mama Christine Nyakerario" from their bed..⠀
Or shares half their favourite snack with you..⠀
Or offers to help you when you're cooking...⠀
Or cries when their sibling is in pain..⠀
Or the one that gets me every time; says "I love you" out of the blue...⠀
⠀
And just as they suddenly crept up on you, those moments of doubt, fear and worry instantly dissipate and you are reminded of the blessings they are and that you must be doing something right.⠀
