One of the pillars spoken about in February with regard to mental health is self esteem and I will be talking about 6 components of self esteem in the next couple of days.

Self esteem is basically how we value and perceive ourselves, what opinions we have about ourselves, what we believe ourselves.

Why a healthy sense of self esteem is important is because if we have skewed thoughts, beliefs and value systems about ourselves then external factors will constantly influence us and we will form an image of ourselves based off of that.

Hey everyone, how have you been and how has #2023 been for you? It would be an amazing time to reflect on this year and map out the coming year.

I am here to wish everyone a Merry Christmas 🎁 and an amazing 2024🎉 but first let me apologize for going MIA, my health took some sort of a nosedive but I am praying for a better year in 2024.

Thank you 👏 for everyone who trusted me this year to walk with in their journey towards mental wholeness .

I do not take it for granted one bit and it will be my absolute pleasure to continue this journey with you and start it with anyone who would like to start as well.

You will be okay, it may not be tomorrow but you will be okay 💗.

!!!!!GUESS WHO'S BACK!!!!! And it is with exciting news too!!! I am pleased to introduce three new segments on my socials and I am praying that I can be able to follow through but I am legit excited.

So the segment are where it's all about exploring beliefs values and perspectives that you have about yourself.

Then comes where it's all about self care self awareness and fulfillment.

Then lastly comes where we will be talking about introspection, self-examination, self-observation of behaviors, habits, thoughts and attitudes.

Know what these are? These are moments one is forced to look within and reflect on who they are and who they must become in order to achieve their goals.

At first they really suck and we feel a bit crappy because in some moments we have realizations that really hurt about ourselves. However, in time they increase our self awareness and how we relate with ourselves. We get to increase self compassion and self love among so many other things.

Often when we are faced by these moments we are faced with two options. Either face the moment or keep staying in the bubble of oblivion.

What’s your experience with mirror moments and what did you do? Therapy is one avenue that can help maneuver through this subject.

Let's talk about TRAUMA

WHAT IS TRAUMA?
In a psychological context, trauma means an emotional response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event.

HOW DOES TRAUMA MANIFEST?
There are so many symptoms of trauma and some psychological ones are;
Shock
Denial
Confusion
Difficulty concentrating.
Anger/ irritability/ mood swings.
Anxiety and fear.
Guilt/ shame/ self-blame.
Withdrawing from others.

Psychological trauma also has physical symptoms, some of these are;
Insomnia or nightmares
Fatigue
Being startled easily
Racing heartbeat
Aches and pains

TRAUMA RECOVERY TIPS
Exercise
Don't isolate
Take care of your health
See a professional mental health provider.

HELPING A LOVED ONE DEAL WITH TRAUMA
Be very patient and understanding
Offer practical support
Never force them to open up but be available when they're ready
Do not take the trauma symptoms to heart.

Trauma affects the individual and the people around them. Knowing how to go about it can feel very empowering amidst the confusion, hurt and uncertainty. And all trauma regardless of how big or small it's perceived needs to be dealt with so that we avoid passing on the hurt that we haven't processed

Let's talk about reflective journaling. Reflective journaling is the practice of documenting both your experiences as well as your interpretation of those experiences.

1. You can look at a situation from different perspectives.
2. You discover who you truly are.
3. You are able to get your thoughts out of your head so you can look at them objectively.

Healing ourselves first.

Contrary to popular belief, this doesn't mean perfection. This means dealing with the things that keep us caged, things that stop us from growing and being comfortable in our own skin.

1. It starts within. That first step of saying that I need to work on myself, I need to face everything that brought me pain, I need to deal with the unhealthy tendencies that I have and tolerate. That first step has to be yours.

2. Forgiveness is a process. This process though hard brings you peace. You are able to look at things and decide how you want to move on. What are you holding on to and is it causing you more pain than you thought it would?

3. Taking responsibility for your own healing. How you react, what you do and what you say is up to you. You need to remember you have no control over other people and what they do and you need to be okay with this.

Remember we are normalizing mental wellness. We are unlearning old behaviour, relearning behaviour that was eroded and benefited us and learning new behaviour that will help us as we evolve and heal.
