Grounding Your Kids – What consequences do your kids earn?

Do you ground your kids? Or do you discipline another way? Either way, I wonder if this will help when consequences for poor choices are on the horizon.

If you ground your kids, or don’t this is a handy chart to keep right on your fridge… or near their electronic storage/charging area! I actually use this for any type of consequence and it sure doesn’t take long for my boys to get their buns in gear and do a little work to get back on track! I am happy to customize this so it works for your family if you prefer as well.

What are your favorite consequences for your kiddos at home? My boys are elementary age so taking away the good ol’ IPAD works like a charm… every single time! I know as they get older that may change. As a school counselor, I love to ask my students what consequences they get at home (for getting into trouble at school, poor grades, skipping class, etc.) Some students tell me they don’t get a consequence, or at least nothing their parents follow through with. This actually surprises me to no end. I do not claim to be a super mom – I yell, swear, cry and scream into my pillow (or I sit in my car and scream) when I get overloaded with frustration at my kids but it doesn’t happen very often. Except for late July and early August. And typically during Christmas break in December. And by Sunday evenings I have lost my s**t a time or two, BUT you know what I mean. I digress…

Students tell me their parents take their phones and keys away and don’t allow them to hang out with friends. Those are definitely the top three things they share with me. What do you do? No judgement either…. I am a strong believer in YOU DO YOU and empower this philosophy (ummm, unless you hurt your kids – then this blog is not for you – bye!)
