REFLECTIONS ON THE GEN Z REVOLUTION

Gen Z want a radical sweep of the old order and a new beginning for Kenya. They don't want the recycled old guard.

They don't want half-hearted reforms. They have seen so many elite pacts, broken promises, and cycles of endless unfinished reforms. The more things seem to change, the more they remain the same.

Gen-Z want a total overhaul of the system now. They want a radical, abrupt, and dramatic change, similar to a social revolution.

However without clear leadership and organization, the Gen-Z movement is likely to be a short-lived insurrection that only scratches the surface of the status quo.

The Gen-Z struggle is dauntless, faceless, formless, and leaderless. It is not enough to passionately wish and volunteer for change. No entrenched political system has been removed from power through ad hoc spontaneous volunteer activism, however passionate.

We hope this will not be a temporary wave like the quail farming craze that engulfed Kenyans a few years ago.

Kenyans want change, but they want an orderly, peaceful change within the confines of the constitution.

The primary actors in that struggle will be our youth. It is a project that will require leadership, planning, mobilization, resources, hard work, and engagement with other interests in our society. I

If our experience of the 1990s is anything to go by, the energies and ideas of the Gen-Z could be injected into such a project through a political party and the framework of political participation provided for under Article 38 of our Constitution.

The late Prof.Wangari Maathai was a vet scientist by profession but she poured her heart into environmental conservation.

Planting trees was her passion and she derived happiness in doing it because it was her life's purpose.

Consequently, she became the first African woman to be awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for planting millions of trees across Kenya.

In a nutshell, Prof Wangari Maathai was SPIRITUAL about the environment.

Find that which gives your life meaning and purpose and do it unapologetically for you to experience unprecedented joy.

FINDING HAPPINESS THROUGH SPIRITUALITY

Spirituality is merely not about religion. It's deeper than that.

Being spiritual is focusing on the very reason why you exist. Focusing on your life's purpose.

It's pouring your heart into the one thing you are passionate about. That which excites you.

Spirituality is also about mindfulness. Being aware and conscious of what you are doing today.

Forget about what happened yesterday because you have no control.

Dump the anxieties about tomorrow.
Focus on here and now and you will be happy.

The registrar of societies in Kenya accepted our application to have a fully fledged happiness society of Kenya just like LSK.

We are now fully registered as per the law.

The happiness society of Kenya's main mandate will be to promote happiness in action.

The society will also seek to promote the learning and science of happiness as it increases the levels of happiness in personal as well as community lives.

Don't worry, be happy!

Indeed the youth revolt is a political game changer in Kenya.

In my book BEYOND POLITICS P102 - 103, I have talked comprehensively about the youth question.

"......They say that the youth are a time bomb. It will explode at any time.

The youth question is an urgent and important national question.

We always talk about unemployment, poverty, drugs, crime, apathy, teenage pregnancy and hopelessness.

The question is, what are we doing about it? Is what we are doing effective?

Useless we seek, imaginative and practical solutions for these challenges, the youth could easily cause serious social and political upheavals.

I think that this is the time- bomb being referred to. It is a political time-bomb that politicians worry about.

The solution to the youth question has to go beyond handouts, wheelbarrows and grass-cutting. It requires a bold policy and huge budgetary allocations, not shallow populist propaganda. What is needed is a coherent and comprehensive youth program......."

The youth have their own ideas we should listen to them as leaders. As Governor I formed the revolutionary MERU YOUTH SERVICE the first of its kind at the county level. It was a program for the youth, by the youth tailor made after a comprehensive youth public participation process.

It is a fallacy to ask students to sacrifice their happiness while in school so that they can be happy in future.

Life is hard and challenging at every turn. The future never comes. There is always something between you and your future happiness.

There are various opportunities for enjoyment at school. Students shouldn't postpone happiness. They only need to work hard, enjoy now and also in the future.

Delighted to have engaged students of my Alma mater the mighty Alliance High School on matters of happiness.

I will not be running for any elective position in 2027.

As the longest serving elected leader in Meru, having served for thirty consecutive years in various dockets including MP, Senator and Governor I feel I have done my part for my people.

I will always be indebted to the people of Meru for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to provide transformative leadership to them for three decades.

However, I will continue being active as a political leader and elder in my capacity as the Party leader and driver of BUS(DEVOLUTION EMPOWERMENT PARTY).

On Mt. Kenya unity, I ask our people and leaders to heed to President Ruto's clarion call of uniting as a country and shunning divisive regional politics.Meru county cannot afford to miss out on major development projects by dilly dancing with opposition politics.

Joined fellow Meru leaders in welcoming H.E President William Ruto and Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua during their development tour of Meru County earlier today.

The President laid the foundation stone for the Meru Maziwa Millers in Mitunguu, South Imenti which will have a processing capacity of 12,000 tonnes a month once complete, commissioned the Meru Dairy Union factory phase II, in Meru town and later led us in gracing the 9th Annual dairy farmers field day at Gitoro ASK grounds.

I sincerely thank President Ruto for investing in our farmers hence improving their livelihoods.

Addressing a rally in Meru in 1992 as a member of the Ford young turks.

Our struggle for ensuring Kenya becomes a MULTIPARTY democracy had just paid off.

I was elated and went on to win the South Imenti parliamentary seat in December that year which marked the beginning of my journey in elective politics.

Back then politics was issue based and meaningful unlike today where our politics has become a morally barren space.

HOW TO CURB BANDITRY ALONG THE MERU ISIOLO BORDER

When I was in office, I negotiated with the military who occupied some 17,000 acres in Igembe and Tigana region to shift their training base to the Meru, Isiolo border which is a banditry hotspot.

The idea was to create a buffer zone at the border using Military presence so that no stolen animals would cross to either side.

The negotiations took 18 months. How I wish the current regime would follow up and implement the agreement that was made so that our people can stop loosing their livestock to criminals.

MY THOUGHTS ON WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE CURRENT MIRAA MARKET WOES.

There is a huge internal miraa market that can be created through value addition.

We should be having miraa products in our supermarkets i.e miraa wine, miraa juice etc.

The only impediment is that miraa is classified as a drug as stipulated in the narcotics and psychotropic substances act, which limits its by products from getting standardisation from KEBS.

Meru leaders should come together and lobby our Minister of Interior who has the powers to exempt miraa from the act to allow for value addition hence creating a new, bigger, internal miraa market consequently more profits to our farmers.

My heart goes out to the family of the Meru County assembly Deputy Speaker Hon. Mwenda Ali who has been involved in a grisly road accident together with his two kids earlier this evening.

The people of Meru are still on the cross, however we will continue working with other leaders to liberate them.

Joined CS Mithika Linturi, majority leader Hon. Kimani Ichungwa, Hon. Shadrack Mwiti(South Imenti), Gov. Muthomi Njuki(Tharaka Nithi) among other leaders in a fundraiser in support of the construction of the new PCEA Kiangua church in South Imenti.

I asked CS Mithika Linturi to remain steadfast in serving Kenyans amidst the storm reiterating that one is bound to face challenges as long as he/she is great in this country.
