A beautiful occasion, with absolutely incredible people and a truly memorable evening. Thank you Miss Universe and waheshimiwa Hon Millie Odhiambo Mabona, MP Esther M Passaris and Cde Nyakerario Mayaka alongside the incredible partners who joined Ababu Namwamba Foundation - ANF to deliver quite a historic baller last evening!

On 27th September 2022 H.E President William Samoei Ruto graciously appointed me Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports. I inherited a Ministry rock bottom on performance, impact and ratings, worsened by multiple international bans on sports like football and a doping crisis.

21 months later, I hand over a Ministry reborn. Not only have all international suspensions been lifted and doping confronted decisively, but we have also returned Kenya to the elite league of hosting events like Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Am super proud of the incredible record I leave behind, which includes:
✅️4 Bills, 2 Policy drafts to formalise the Creative Economy, revitalise Youth Empowerment and raise Kenyan Sports to a new dimension.
✅️Robust Sports and Arts Infrastructure Masterplan (SAIM), whose fruits are manifest, like the new Talanta Sports City, overhaul of Kasarani, Nyayo KipKeion, Kanduyi and Bukhungu stadia and the refurbished Kenya National Theatre.
✅️Return of Kenyan football and swimming to the international fold. Hosting of AFCON'27 and qualifying for FIFA U17 Women's World Cup are fruits of this transformation.
✅️Historic international partnerships with NBA, Grammys, Invention Studios of Hollywood, China, SA, India and Cuba to power sports and creatives to new heights.
✅️Monetisation of sports and arts with epic initiatives like Talanta Hela and WhozNext which have seen increased cashflow to the pockets of sportspersons and creatives.
✅️Revolutionary Incentives Framework to incentivise corporates with tax rebates for increased sponsorship of sports, creatives and events like WRC Safari Rally, which I returned to its traditional Easter calender and also extended the Kenyan franchise long-term.
✅️And many many more successes..

Challenges remain, particularly around integrity, impunity, misgovernance and competence gaps. Good thing I already initiated requisite measures.

I congratulate my brother, friend and comrade, Hon Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen. If I were to pick a successor, I wouldn't have wished for anyone better. His knowledge and passion are beyond question. I have no doubt he will sustain the phenomenal momentum I have set and take this important space to the ultimate heights as envisaged in The Plan and the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). I salute the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Team and all partners for the support during my tenure, and thank H.E the President for the privilege and honour to serve our great country in Cabinet, my second stint.

I have taken a well-deserved sabbatical, to enjoy my legal practice, private businesses and the supremely fulfilling work of Ababu Namwamba Foundation (ANF). God bless Kenya🇰🇪

TIMELESS TIES BEYOND BORDERS

Splendid evening with special friends, His Excellency Mr. Shan Xiangqian, Governor of the People’s Government of Anhui Province, and Mr. William Zhuo, Chairman of the Kenya Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

With a population of 61 million people, the Eastern Chinese Province of Anhui, famed for its "Yellow Mountain (Huangshan)," is the 9th most populous province in China. Manufacturing and agriculture are the twin anchors of Anhui's robust economy, with the province ranking high in electric vehicles assembly among other top tech industries.

EV mobility, agri-processing, and tourism bear attractive trade prospects for Anhui with Kenya, as well as with the rest of the East African Community (EAC) and indeed the whole of Africa.

It is a special honour, privilege and blessing to serve one's nation, more so in Cabinet, the country's highest policy making organ. I thank His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto for the trust and confidence that informed my appointment to serve in Cabinet for the second time in my public service life. God bless Kenya and grant the President grace and wisdom to navigate our country into safe harbour.
