Kenya Women Birders
Welcome to the Kenya Women Birders programme. This is a group of passionate women to be mentored.
Hello birding enthusiasts and friends of Kenya Women Birders (KWB)!
This Saturday is the eBird Global Big Day—an exciting opportunity to come together and celebrate the beauty of birds worldwide. Whether you're in the city or deep in nature, we want to know: Where will you be birding from?
Share your birding location in the comments, and you might just find a fellow birder to join you on your adventure!
We look forward to those exciting venues and reports for the same.
Let’s make this Global Big Day one to remember! 🦅🌍
Day 1 birding at Kakuzi PLC has been a great success despite the early morning rains. Birds pics coming up in our next posts. Much appreciation to Simon Kenyanbirder for being a great host and guide for the day. Looking forward to a great day tomorrow
MARCH'S BIRD WALK is happening this weekend, 9th March 2024, at UON Lower and Upper Kabete Campuses.
Carry your binocular, snacks, and drinking water. Don't forget a learning attitude and be ready to have fun.
Meeting point: Ndumboini Stage Upper Kabete at exactly 8:30 am.
We had a great morning with members of the Kenya Women Birders Club (a club founded by Cisticola Tours - Birding and Nature Tours in East Africa to empower female guides and research assistants in Kenya). During our meeting, the ladies got to receive donated items from our partners and deliberations were made on how to take the club further.
We would like to thank all friends and partners who have contributed donation materials and equipment. A special thank you to all guests who have traveled with Cisticola Tours - Birding and Nature Tours in East Africa and all our partner companies or organisations (a portion of your tour payment has gone into supporting the Kenya Women Birders Club). A lot of time, guidance, books, equipment and funds have been contributed by Guy and Janet, Ga***rd Nelson Audubon Chapter of Western Wisconsin, William, Mary Anne and Steve, Heather Elkins, Keith Pearson and Friends, Soeren Skov and Birdlife Denmark, Neary and Carol Thompson with RSPB, Mary Anne, John and Jane Gregory, Naturalist Journeys and Peg Abbott, Audubon Portland, Rockjumper Birding Tours, HAL, Heatherlea, Nature Travel, Birdfinders, Anne Powys and Suyian Trust, Rashida Sykes, Spainbirds Nature Tours, Hillender Tímea, Afrika Sztorik Organisation, European Union, National Geographic, The Walt Disney Company, Komba Magazine, Mazingira Yetu, Rupi Mangat, Uganda Women Birders, Herbert Byaruhanga, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, National Museums of Kenya, Nature Kenya, Bovid Africa Safaris, Fleur Ng'weno, Jennifer Oduori, Dr. Jemmimah Simbauni; and all the friends and partners of Cisticola Tours - we say thank you and have a blessed 2024.

Throwback to Ngong Forest Sanctuary Walk
In all honesty, nothing can stop us, not even the rain. In April, we ventured to Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary despite showers in the morning. As if acknowledging our relentlessness, the sanctuary offered more than we expected: Black-collared Apalis, Pin-tailed Whydahs, Narina Trogon, Crowned Eagle, nesting Common Bulbul, and Red-backed Shrike, not to mention the beautiful green scenery dotted with flowering plants.
Do birds intrigue your curiosity? Do they make you giddy with excitement that you want to step out there and see them and know them by name? If they do, this call is for you. Kenya Women Birders has planned another birding adventure to Nairobi Aboretum on 11th, Nov 2023. And you are invited!
Kenya Women Birders
Welcome to the Kenya Women Birders programme. This is a group of passionate women who will be trained in a series of programs to equip them with skills to become professional bird guides. We are partnering with Uganda Women Birders and Rwanda Women Birders. The plan is to have an East African group of women birders who can lead birding tour groups and research groups.
Cisticola Tours is the host of the program in Kenya and will provide opportunities for field trainings, birding resources and much more. The group will be led by women birders and will eventually have leaders.
The Kenya Women Birders launch event will be at Ford Hall, Nairobi National Museum Headquarters, 2-5pm on 29th March, 2019.
Invite all your friends, both men and women, as we launch this great initiative for Kenya. See you all there.
