The family of a UDA Member of Parliament (MP) spent the night of Friday, June 16 out in the cold after they found that a CS had occupied their Karen home.

Speaking to the media, the MP's Wife Mary Muriu claimed that while they were out of the country, the CS moved into their maisonette.

A contractor, whom she had sent to clean the house ahead of their return found the home under heavy police security.

"We travelled to America for our daughter's graduation and when I came back, the house was occupied," Muriu stated.

However, she revealed that she and her husband planned to sell the house to the CS but had not reached an agreement on the price.

Muriu claimed that the house was to be renovated before the sale once they agreed on terms.

"The CS came to my home with an offer of Ksh90 million but we told her that the least we could take was Ksh120 million.

"There is no agreement signed whatsoever, and neither is there any transaction. This house still belongs to me and my husband," she stated.

The MP demanded that the CS evacuate the house immediately. The CS is currently out of the country.

At least 25 students were killed on Friday, June 16, after gunmen attacked a private school in Western Uganda.

Ugandan Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed that attack on Lhubiriha Secondary School as conducted by members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group.

Enanga stated that the perpetrators ambushed the private school at about 11 p.m., setting several structures ablaze.

"It was a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels who burnt a dormitory and raided the food stores. 25 students have been confirmed dead, eight are in critical condition," he stated.

The survivors were rushed to Bwera Hospital, and the recovered bodies were ferried to the mortuary of the same facility.

Enanga stated that the number of fatalities could increase as efforts to recover survivors continue.

Meanwhile, a contingent of officers from the police and UPDF are in hot pursuit of the assailants who escaped into the Vumila National Park.

The Ministry of Treasury and Economic Planning on Friday, June 16 revealed that President William Ruto's government owed lenders Ksh923.83 billion.

In the Borrowing Programme Performance report shared by Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u, Kenya borrowed Ksh504 .37 billion externally and Ksh 419.46 billion locally.

The external debt includes credit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, an unnamed syndicate facility and project loans.

Project loans (Ksh170 billion) accounted for 33.8% of the loans.

"Kenya received Ksh27.91 billion and Ksh54.92 billion in September 2022 and December 2022 respectively.

"On May 30, Kenya received $1 billion (Ksh140 billion) from the World Bank and as of June 23, the money disbursed from the syndicate facility was $900 million," the statement read in part.

Treasury confirmed that the government had paid nearly half of its external debt.

"The principal repayments for FY2022/23 amount to Ksh236.58 billion leaving the net financing at Ksh267.79 billion," the Ministry informed.

CS Ndun'gu explained that the external debt was Ksh94.97 billion less than the target of Ksh362.76 billion.

On the other hand, the local debt recorded a 98.7% performance against a target of Ksh425.11 billion.

University and college students are among the greatest beneficiaries of the new budget set to be read out in Parliament by Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u.

In the first budget under President William Ruto, the government proposes to double the allocation to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

This will see the fund allocated Ksh30 billion, up from Ksh15 billion in the previous financial year.

To realise the transition into the CBC system, the government budgeted Ksh25.5 billion to go towards junior secondary schools (JSS) capitation.

This is an increase of Ksh10.5 billion from the 2022/23 budget.

In total, Ruto's administration will dedicate Ksh630 billion-27.4% of its Ksh3.63 trillion budget-to education.
